header question...

i recieved an email from brian on the 01 maxima heres the email on the back order for the new headers that are coming out

I’m contacting customers with Cattman header backorders for 2001 Maximas, because your cars may or may not have an EGR valve on the back manifold – some 2001s did, and some did not and we need to know ASAP.

This is critical because if you get one with an EGR and you don’t need it, we don’t have a plug; if you don’t get an EGR version and you need one, you’ll get a check engine light. In either case the manifold would have to be exchanged, which would entail shipping and handling fees, as well as a possible delay if we don’t have the manifold you need in stock. Please get back to me ASAP.

As far as the headers go, we will very possibly begin shipping by the end of next week after I install the first production set on Monday. I’ll send out emails timed to let individual customers know their order is about ready to ship, so they know we’ll be hitting their credit cards. This is not that notice, but since this first batch has already sold out, I very much need to find out which version you need so we can match production with the specific orders.

so heres the question... where is the egr located...

I have never seen an 01 with egr. My old AE (2k1) was an early build in June of 00 IIRC and it did not have egr.

I am not discounting what he stated but of all the 2k1s I have seen which is quite a few, none have had EGR. I also remember SR telling me that he had never seen EGR on any of the header installs he did on 2k1s. There is also no mention of in my 2k1 electronic service manual.

Feel under your throttle body... If there is a pipe comming from the bottom (your rear exhaust manifold) and it sticks up into the throttle body... Well that is an EGR, if nothing is there... No EGR.

I called Dave B. and got new manifold gaskets (get 3.5 ones they are MUCH cheaper) and a new main cat gasket...

Other than that, I don't think you need anything. You really don't need the gaskets, I just like to be safe.

walbro from a mustang gt (larger inlet than the ones most use on maximas and cheaper), an fpr so you can convert to returnless and be able to change fp then an afc. id skip on the injectors.

The last I talked to Brian, he did not know what gaskets came with the headers and what they are made from; thats why I ordered new ones. I made the suggestion to him that my copper secondary pipe gaskets that came with the HotShots were really good. He said her would look into it...

The OEM manifold gaskets are "supposed" to last a long time, but I reused them on my HotShot Headers, so I want to swap in new ones for the Cattman headers.

but the gasket... would there be a problem considering that the cattman header ports might be bigger than the oem... as far as any type of restrictions?

They are supposed to be port matched... If they are larger, no problem.
