testing the waters : fog light protectors
alright guys, please don't flame me if i didn't put this in the right place, its my first time posting a thread and i wasnt sure where to put it. My father is a sales manager for a large plastic manufacturing plant in NY. We both own max's, (00 and 03) and are tired of our fog housings being cracked by road debris.
I'm entertaining the idea of ordering a whole bunch of cut-to-size pieces that would mount in front of the housing, hopefully doing away with broken fogs.
There are quite a few different styles and thicknesses available.
In acrylic, a thinner plastic, he can do nearly 50 colors, either translucent or transparent. This plastic does have a tendency to break if a larger pebble hits it, so this would be more of an aesthetically pleasing choice.
The other option we have is to use polycarbonate. Poly is a very strong plastic, and it would need more than just a stone to break through it. Unfortionately, only transparent clear plastic is available in this form.
I am just guageing interest here. my father is planning on making a few samples, so once they are finished i will post some pictures up. Depending on how many of you guys are interested, these will cost very little to manufacture. The only question i have is how would these mount into the cut-out??? i am lost on how to make these STAY in the cut-out after they are put in there. Any further ideas you guys have would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

.308 bullet from 30' away will shatter 35mm thick poly.
Poly on its own will not hold a tint color, they have to laminated (best choice) or coated in a tintable protective coating.
The 00-01's have a Poly lens on the fogs from the factory if I remember correctly. It is the 02-03's that have glass and they are the ones that break.

I'm interested in the stonger ones of course. I think I saw a post with a guy who did that on his 02. He drilled a hole on both sides of the lens and used a wire to wrap around the light and tied them together behind the foglight.
