Spark Plugs choice..

About 3 months ago i installed Champion copper spark plugs in the Maxima.

I just had a question (sorry if it's a little noob -ish)

Do the type of spark plugs actually make a difference in power/fuel economy? I recently heard that NGK spark plugs are what im supposed to put in the Maxima, and that Champion plugs aren't good enough for her. Can anyone give me their imput on this? should i change them out for NGK's, or even some other brand i dont know about?

Thanks a million
Joey

Stick with the NGK's. They are well worth it for making the Max run like it should. Putting in any substitute will only cause more aggravation and problems. I know the NGK's are pricey, but if you try cheaper replacement plugs, you'll end up paying for it by having your car run like crap. Don't skimp out on this simple maintenance. Put in the NGK's and your car will definitely be glad you did.

I should probably check to see if I need to replace mine. I am at 53k miles.

Is replacing the plugs an easy job or should I just find a shop to do it?

Thanks for any info.

Yea, I found sources that show how to do it but I was asking if it is recommended to take it to a shop. If it is not too expensive then I would rather just take it to a shop. Thanks

The part # in that link is the wrong part # for 3.5L plugs.

You can use the same plugs as an 03 Automatic would use. I used LFR5A-11's (copper)

Is there going to be any difference in the procedure from the write-up when changing the plugs on a 2000?

Changing plugs are much easier on the 2k-2k1 models. It doesn't involve much complication procedure like the 2k2-2k3 models. For the 2k-2k1 models, just remove the valve cover to access the front 3, and for the rears, just remove the coils to access the other 3. There may be some blocked access for the rears, but it's not that complicated. You just need to get around the throttle cable.

2001 GLE 132K miles auto...
Just completed a fluid flush upgraded to drop in K&N filter and changed out spark plugs to new OEM plugs.

Did a trip to CLT from JAX... at a constant 70-75MPH got 26-28MPG...

I would say... stick with OEM.

I know what you meant, but to calrify, it's an engine cover, not a valve cover.

If no1 knows it I'll just look it up later myself. In forums ppl help out each other not just refer to a sticky. What is nice, are the ppl that send you the link to sticky. Now those are helpful ppl, thats where my thanks go to jime, irish, and sooner.

Everone i know is a mechanic. My dad, uncles, cousin. and everyone says use the ones that are supplied with the car. Chevy uses ac delco..replace with ac delco, ford uses autolite.. replace w autolite, lawn mowers and tractors use champion... replace w champion. Pull the champions and put ngks back in. Much better than the champion .. at least for the max. I use only ac delco in my camaro i just paly around wth the temp of the plug ( hot or cold).
