Driver Door Sag
Driver Door Sag
My door sags..... When I go to close it it rubs the bottom and bumps up. It's a small sag. I can actually move the door up and down a little.
Is there a place to tighten that up? I looked but couldn't figure it out - or do I have to pull of the door panel?
Thanks,
Ollie

Normally....door sag is caused by worn hinges. Off the top of my head I don't recall what the hinges look like on Nissan's. I've seen hinges that just have pins, which get worn, or some hinges have brass bushings which get worn out. Both types usually suffer due to lack of lubrication. Either type requires removal of the door (a two/three man job) and replacement of the bushings, pins or entire hinge, depending on design of the hinge.
You can check for worn hinges by opening the door and then picking up the door from the bottom. If it's worn, you should be able to move the door up and down, without moving the car. It takes a little practice to tell the difference between moving the door and moving the car. Doors are heavy, even on little cars like Sentra's, so it takes a bit of effort to move the door up and down. On really worn out hinges, you can actually get the door to make a clunking noise while lifting it up and down.
There's no "adjustment" for sag per se. You might be able to adjust the hinges to compensate, but I don't recommend it. Again, doors are heavy - and loosening the hinges and trying to move the door around isn't a one man job. Nor is it easy. And it's quite prone to trial and error.
If the hinges are worn, I'd suggest a trip to a reliable body shop and get an estimate. Typically, it's only the drivers door that wears out, as it's used the most. Depending on the hinge style, the parts will be a few dollars to quite a bit if the entire hinge has to be replaced (and thus will need to be painted to match). The rest will be labor. They should be able to do the work in a day or less.
Good luck!

I'm having the same problem as you guys are. Haven't really took it into a body shop yet. I guess I'm waiting to hear some more results.

The pins are not replaceable in the Max. The hinge assm. would have to be replaced, they come black from the dealer and are fairly reasonably priced. Worst part could be the cost for painting and installation.
