hey guys i seem to be hearing a small rattle noise only when ide give my motor a quick rev, maybe to only 2500 at the most. i only hear the noise when my RPM's begin to drop. i hear the rattle over by the timing chain area. i dont know what the noise is but any input would be great.

i bet you if you jack up the car and have someone rev it and you listen closely to the catalytic converter you will find out that the rattle is comming from inside the catalytic converter. some how the mesh grille on the inside of it is lose.

 

If the cat is dead, that means you'rerunning lean, and damaged it with heat. My cat is fine 4 years and 80k miles later. Something else might be(is) wrong.

 

im pretty sure its not the cat, my car only has 44k on it. sounds like a chain or some plastic rattling.

 

Chain and plastic noises are very different. Is it metal or plastic sounding? Are you familiar with spark knock sounds vs rod knock?

 

well ide like eliminate rod knock because its been like this for a little while now and it hasnt gotten any worse. nor is it spark knock.


i guess it sounds plastic? or some very light metal. it comes from the timing chain side, and its higher up on the motor.
