Looks like the poll is staying between 20%-30% having transmissions work.
Since I was a little hesistant to walk out of a junk yard with a transmission just to potentially do the install twice I opted to let them install it for $300 that way they could do the install twice. Called them up today to see if the work had been done and the transmission with 58K had no reverse.. So it's been shipped to the trans shop to be fixed. If I pay the difference between replacing the bad parts only and a complete rebuild (no labor costs parts only) I will be allowed a 12/12 warranty. Guess something good came out of buying a junk yard transmission.

Given the same load, there is less stress on the bearings at 6k RPM than 3k RPM. We don't have pushrod engines that like to stay under 5k RPM.

6500 RPM is a *VERY* conservative redline for the VQ30. The real redline would be between 7500-8000rpm. With upgraded valvesprings, the VQ30 will be happy at 8000 rpm. Using the old 4000fpm rule, the VQ30 doesn't start getting into trouble until 8300rpm. With upgraded rods, you could do 8500rpm.

The VQ35 on the other hand has a longer stroke and weak stock rod bolts. With ARP rod bolts, it can handle 7200rpm.

have a problem

2000 maxima se auto ...106k

i haven't taken it in for tranny service but if i drive up the 'grapevine' mountain in CA, the tranny will drop me out of 4th gear. no engine light. then for the rest of the time, i'll be driving in 3rd gear. the dash does not report that i have the OD off. the only way i can 'reset it' is by exiting the freeway and turning off the engine...wait about 10-15 minutes...then restart it.

does anyone else have this problem or know someone who has?

Before you install the tranny I would have any neccessary "improver" kits installed and the condition of tranny (clutches/bands etc) verifed. You may even wish to have the VB mod done while you are at it. If you decide to have a shift kit installed, make sure it is set up for your needs. A shift kit setup for drag racing is not much fun in daily driving.

I'm planning a full review with a few pics on the RE4F04B-HD2 TransGo Nissan Reprogramming Kit (VB mod + tranny seals and springs), everything is installed on my new AE LSD Auto tranny and so far it has completely changed the cars drivetrain. One way to explain it is that it just goes into the next gear instantly, there is no banging into the next gear like with the drop resistor mod at low speed. The Reprogramming Kit also addresses the ring seals and a few springs in the trannys internals so the tranny was completey taken apart and rebuilt and using Amsoil ATF. Oh, the LSD is .

Oh that sounds great, cant wait, you couldent have explained it any better,I dont like how it the low speed shift is, like when i go to accelerate it feels like i missed a gear on my dirt bike and i get thrown foreword till it catches.

I look forword to the review, keep me informed.

I bought my car with 62k miles and clutch pedal was a little hard but clutch grabbed, no leaks or anything. I took good care of my tranny as far as maintenance.

Changed my tranny oil maybe 4k miles after receiving car and had clutch changed to exedy stage 1. Also got a short throw shifter, got the SS clutch line, even got the TFT piece to stiffen movement on the shifter. I currently have 111k miles. NO ISSUES, knock on wood. I love my tranny. Even on my past 4th gen, I put a 5th gen tranny and had no issues. I've had a support rod break on me (dont ask how) and changed my clutch but my tranny has been fine.

Then again, i'm basically stock, just have a cone filter and a catback.

does anyone know if this is serious? i am experiencing the same symptoms. On the highway when i try to pass, i step on the gas and it'll rev up until 4.5k-5k and then switch gear and get the pull. is this normal? i have 78k miles on a 2000 auto.

It may be the solenoids. If it is, the tranny is slipping and causing damage. Do you have a CES light? There is a TSB that should cover this, in my case the dealer had to replace the tranny at no charge.

The only thing I've seen is that the valve body will vary with a few parts.

2000 SE Autotragic (other car is clutch). Got car with 72K. Immediately did 3 drain and fills with 5 QTS each Valvoline AFT over 3K miles. Have 95K and it runs smoothly with no problems since getting car at 72K.

Will be doing 5 QT drain and fills every ~10K. I haven't dropped the pan or cleaned the magnets, but think the constant drain and fills will be enough for me.
