SES light just went off....
Yeah, so i'm riding to work today and i look down on my dashboard and notice that a familiar sight is gone.. my SES light disappeared! it was on for about a month or so, and i got it diagnosed at autozone who said it was oxygen sensor 2, bank 2 that was the problem, but replacing the sensor itself might not even fix it.. i'd have to get it diagnosed elsewhere to find out the specific issue.. anyway.. so i'm basically deciding what to do, and the light just disappears.. turned the car off and on several times throughout the day and the light has yet to return.. should i just count my lucky stars? or is there still a problem...
i'll tell u what made it come on... it came on after replacing the MAF, and took it to the dealer to get the ECM reprogrammed, and it was off.. the next day im messing around with my friend on the highway, and i take the engine up to the 6,000 rpm range, and it comes on again... my mechanic takes an OBD to it and says its an O2 sensor, and turns the light off for me.. its off for a couple weeks until i'm on the highway again around 6,000rpms, maybe a little over and it comes back on (about a month ago).. i go to autozone and they tell me O2 sensor again, but they leave the light on this time.. and the light just goes away today after that time on the highway about a month ago.. what the heck is goin on?? im so confused...

Count yourself lucky for now, but it will be back.........
The SES light will turn itself off if the detected "error" code disappears for a certain number of test cycles. I don't know exact details but mine typically goes away after a couple of days once I fix the problem.

but i mean like.. is that O2 sensor still something i need to replace? i'm thinking maybe it doesn't function correctly only above 6,000 rpms, which is fine cause i dont take it there that often

Not sure which code you actually threw, but there is a TSB out there for O2 sensors you might want to look into. I see you are an 2K1 and I think it applies through the years of 2000-2002.

the code i threw was P0160, which is oxygen sensor 2, bank 2... the receipt from autozone said that the sensor was not functioning correctly for current operating conditions.. i'm thinking maybe that those operating conditions it was referring to was above the 6,000 rpm range.. but the guy at auto zone said putting in a new sensor may not correct the problem.. it could just be like another wire or something like that and i should get it diagnosed further.. i was gonna do that but hey.. the light disappeared! lol
