01 maxima blower motor fix
For those who are interested I tried the Blower Motor TSB fix.
Link to TSB: http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB99-071b.pdf
Part number from dealership: 27227-0E002 (note zero and not "O")
Cost: $12.90
It was really easy to do.
To be thorough I did drop the motor assembly as described in the TSB and did find about 5-7 leaves in there. Once done, I installed the additional blower motor cover.
Note: I found it wierd that in my 01 GLE while the screw holes are there to mount the new cover one was never installed from factory.
Once the install is complete, put everything back together and start the blower motor. In my car I had the "ticking" noise at speed '1' and '2' and the noise went away on '3' '4' or recirculation. It was hell annoying. Now with this new cover in, I have to say all is peaceful . If you open the glovebox you may hear a faint tick, but otherwise there is no noise.
For $13 I strongly suggest the folks with the 2000 and 2001 maximas to get this done !!

anyone know if this cover would work on the 02-03?
I have some vibrating and tapping sound on settings 1 and 2. It's also more noticeable when I accelerate and turn the steering wheel to the right.
This is when the blower is on setting 1 and 2. 3 and 4 is fine, and when the blower isn't on, theres no sound at all.

Basically the blower motor is on the right side on the dash. If a passenger is sitting the blower motor would be just above the passenger's right foot towards the right. There is one electrical connector that goes into it and there is a plastic hose that goes into it from the other side. The motor cover described in the TSB is actually a thin flexible plastic cover with a LOT of foam padding that helps to deaden the noise/ basically reduce the ticking.
In my car the motor cover was not there, you may want to see under your dash near the blower motor to see if the cover came from factory in your 02-03. If the cover is already there, you may want to resort to other ways(probably use dynamat or something to line the cover for additional noise reduction). If you dont have the cover, you can use this cover.
It will line up with the holes that are already there on the plastic unit in the car. You will need 3 little screws to put it in, or as I did simply used the double sided tape that came on the cover.
This cover helps reduce the ticking considerably, I would say it is a 75-80% reduction in noise. Earlier I would have to raise the sound volume higher to compensate for the irritating ticking. Now its there but its very faint and does not bother me. The only thing that bothers me now is wind noise!!

I tried the back window wind noise tsb.
While it reduced that particular noise a little bit, there is considerable wind noise in the maxima from the sunroof area, A pillars and the top of the doors.
I found the reason for door wind noise issue to be two reasons.
- no real sound deadening like my 3 series on the door. I think dynamat may help. The vapour barrier in maxima is clear plastic rather than the foam barrier which also helps lower sound in my 330.
- the door itself has poor sealing. there is one door seal on the car body. instead of the newer cars that have two rubber seals, nissan chose to have a split door seal on the door. you have a top half that runs along the a-pillar and then all the way back and then you have a regular weatherstrip seal on the lower half of the door. The seal going from A-pillar all the way back appears to be culprit as i found several spots where due to sun/weather the rubber doesnt provide a good seal. I am thinking of fabricating a complete new door seal to get peace of mind
While I do this, I am also thinking about getting rubberized under coating spray and doing the wheel wells. That should help reduce the noise coming from there a little bit too.
