Blackstone Lab recommends Dino oil

Just thought I'd post this and see what you guys think.

I have had two oil analysis's on my maxima which has been running Mobil 1 since about 67k. I got my first analysis done at 87k and the result showed excess lead. At 105800 miles, I sent in my second oil sample same oil, Mobil 1 5w-30, and the results showed even more lead and recommended switching back to regular dino oil.

Crazy thing is, the technical at Blackstone Labs personally called me to discuss my oil sample and he highly recommended switching back.

Have any of you, experienced this? Also, anything I should do when switching back to dino?

did you have an analysis done prior to 67k so see what the levels were with dino?

hmm thats interesting, what does excess lead in the oil do? is it a wear metal? i know you have to watch for copper and aluminum etc and some other but not sure about lead.

I really want to switch to full synthetic but I've been hesitant thus far. Now I have an extra reason to consider. Just curious, how did you go about getting your oil sampled in the first place?

The lead is coming from the bearings. Not a good thing.

This is interesting, never heard of people getting their oil analyzed. On that website, did you just order the Free Test Kit + pay $20?

Yep, if you are obsessed with your car, testsing is a good thing to do once in a while. I do it as well, don't have as many miles but use mobil 1 since 6k and don't have a lead problem. I think there was a thread with lots of folks blackstone reports in a spreadsheet and what kind of oil they used, check the fluids forurm.

I've been running Mobil one in my '98 Quest for more than 200K miles and the engine is still running very strong with no smoke or consumption issues.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions.. we don't know what the engine was running like on dino, it may have been the same then in which case its probably not the oil. Some people get their oil tested on a regular basis, we probably would have heard from them if something was off.
