Should I ProLong it?
#1
Cleaning garage, found bottle of Prolong. Was wondering if anyone know if that stuff really works, you know lubricating metal, etc...Max brochure says it has microfinishes on certain internal parts, will this oil treatment hurt/benefit this finish?
Hey, them infomercial really works!

I used to use ProLong in my Civic after watching those infomercials that made it seem so incredible. How could I resist when a car treated with ProLong was able to drive long distances without oil in the pan?!? I asked my mechanic buddy about that stuff and he says he used a similar product to protect his old Accord.
Anyway, a couple of years go by, I've been using ProLong on-and-off, and I bring up the subject again with my buddy. But this time he just told me: "STOP USING IT!" Apparently, the infomercial was misleading when it said that it left no deposits in your engine, and he found that information out. So I immediately stopped using it.
Moral of the story is not to use any kind of engine lubricant. It does feel good when you first add it to your oil, but it might be harmful to your engine in the long-run.
Just change oil every 3K-miles and you should be fine.
