My 2k 5spd vs CL-S..

hmmm....
for the sake of all of us, im not going to go on a raving tirade on how fast our cars are. both cars are respectably fast, but in the end, i personally think it depends on the driver. the person behind the cl-s could have been a dumbfu*k and the person behind the se, an excellent driver. it has been "proven", to the best of my knowledge speaking from a impartial point of view, that the CL-S goes 0-60 in approx. 6.2; (however, even this time varies from test to test) and the se has been clocked in at approx. 6.8-6.9 (likewise, varies). (from what i have heard). if these times are accurate, it would make the cl-s faster, and i should hope so for the extra amount of money and hp. (even tho we do get the whole perforated sports seats, xenon lites, sports guages package). now when the new maxima comes out, we're in trooooouble, but unitl then, it's likely that the CL-S are faster. (our manual version should compete nicely with your new maxima)

Wow thanks for the wonderful insight that you so gracefully laid out! 6.2 for a stock CL-S is too funny! Gimme a break! 6.9 seems more accurate and has been "proven" to the best of my knowledge speaking from an impartial point of view. Look at the difference in price and you made the diff up with: sports seats, xenon lites, sports guages package. They should have spent that money on making the car utilize 260HP! Sorry buddy I would rather have a fully loaded 2001 Maxima Aniversary Edition 5spd with Vortech Supercharger than a fully loaded stock CL-S...both of which work out to the same price! Or better yet keep the $5000 diff and don't upgrade with a SC and still beat a CL-S/TL-S! Take your graceful BS about the CL-S being faster and hit the road in your bloated overpriced under performing 260HP car...if you even own one! Too bad the CL-S and TL-S are not selling well at all! Most people are smart enough and realize that they are rip off. Better hope the new 6pd TL-S/CL-S is priced properly or it won't sell very well either. They will be lucky to keep up with the 5spd 3.5L Altima let alone the Maxima! Is that graceful enough for you??

Did you know that the whp-weight ratio between a CL-S/TL-S and a 2000-2001 Maxima SE 5-spd is almost identical, and that they're so close that the race could go either way?
The CL-S is NOT faster than a Max 5-spd. They're the SAME DAMN WHP-WEIGHT RATIO AND ALMOST THE SAME EXACT DAMN SPEED! And proof of that is in the fact that in this thread a CL-S got BEAT.
You can't just say, "umm, gee, well this magazine says that it's faster so it must be so" because that's bull. Mag times can only be used as a guide, and nothing more.

What the hell are you talking about. A stock CL-S just got beat by a 222HP Max 5-spd!! These guys don't need a 260HP 2002 to beat you now!!!

Dude you are a freakin idiot! How many times do I have to tell you that I've beaten a 25th Anniversary Max. The Max is not faster than the CL-S period. If one of your friends races me I will win easily. I will beat you in any type of race, top speed, which my car is limited to 149, or a stoplight race. You guys need to try picking on a less expensive Acura like the Type R.....oh you can't beat a Type R. You Maxima guys need to stick to racing IS 300's and GT-S Celicas, the CL-S is way out of your league, in more ways than one.

2. You better check your sales facts. CL-S sales are unremarkable as the market for ~$30k coupes is in the toilet (and has been for some time). However, the TL sets sales records almost every month. In fact, in June Acura sold 6,616 TL's which represents a 10.9% increase over last June's record-setting number. For what it's worth, Acura's year-to-date sales are up 25.4% over last year.
3. This isn't the first post I've seen that drags on and is finally "bolstered" by someone quoting the price difference between the allegedly equally-performing Maxima and TL-S and then calls the Acura a "waste of money" since a cheaper car is just as quick. We all know performance isn't everything and we all know there is additional value for the price difference -- and it all shows up in the resale values.
4. Reference the thread in this very forum entitled "MAXIMA RATED #!!!!" posted by MaDxKiLLa. Do you see the vehicles that the automotive press thinks are in the same class as a Maxima? Accord V6, Taurus, Grand Prix, Camry V6. I've never seen a TL compared to any of these... but then again they're all cheaper so they've gotta be better.
5. You're one of the few that thinks the TL-S is a "rip off". I've yet to read an article that doesn't proclaim it as the best value in it's class by far.
6. Finally, thanks goes out to [you know who you are] for signing up on acura-tl.com a little while ago and entertaining us with such intelligent, informative posts. I believe there was even a little bit of GaNgStA-speak in it. Kudos to your parents and teachers!

I dont know whoes the idiot, but stating that you have beaten a 25th anniversary Maxima, is one of the most illarious stupidity that I ever heard so far, cuz the 25th anniversary is due to release in 2006.

6.2 Optimistic??? Try Unrealistic! . CL-S and TL-S (not the lower level TL) are not selling well at all! There are not too many TL-S or CL-S on the road at all! I see a couple of CL-S around here once in a wbile. There are 3 AE Maxima's in my building alone! TL-S and CL-S are are sitting on dealer lots big time. Maybe the lower level TL sells well but not the S series at all! And the TL is no match for a 5spd AE Maxima at all! Even with your mods a STOCK 5spd Max would rip you! And your TL is more expensive! Maxima's have excellent resale value as well so that is not an issue for me. I also have a 4 year 60Kmile bumper to bumper warranty so that is not an issue either. As for your "articles" I really don't care and I don't live in magazine world...I drive my car! Sorry buddy the 260HP S series has extremely poor performance but they have "sport" gauges that look really nice though!!
As for your article #6. Your mistaken if you think I even logged into an Acura form and posted there! You got the wrong guy bwoy! I just wait for guys like you to come in here and post nonsense!
Get a CL-S or TL-S before you can even talk up in here about a thread that doesn't involve your car! S series wannabe! TL? Now that is a joke! Are you an accountant? Or is it your mom's car?

However, I must thank you for proving my original point even further. [Remember the one about always falling back on quoting performance figures and the be-all and end-all of car ownership when you're backed into a corner? You sound like a broken record.]
Maxima's have excellent resale value as well so that is not an issue for me. I also have a 4 year 60Kmile bumper to bumper warranty so that is not an issue either.

And this thread does "involve" my car in the same way that a thread about a Maxima SE "involves" a Maxima GXE. Someone who's not an owner of either of the cars -- just someone familiar with what is factual -- could easily point out the glaring fallacies in your original post.
I'm not an accountant... and last I checked the car belonged to me. Better luck next time.
Please take my not reading and/or responding to your inevitable reponse to this post as what it truly is -- boredom with the topic.
I come in peace ...
I've been reading several stories about the CL-S got killed by Max Power. I'm really curious about how the CL-S and the Max will perform head to head. I'll head out to Baytown, TX next Friday because of my friend wanting to test out his 91 1G dms. It'll be cool if I could meet some Max to make some runs. Last Friday nite, I ran 14.93@94.88 in 86 degree weather and 100% humidity (according to the weather man from KTRH 900AM) with the rear seat stripped out ( I was working on my sound system). Therefore, I will run slower with about 150-170lbs added. So if you are in Houston, contact me via email(hacbao@hotmail.com)so we can make some friendly runs. Please keep in mind, I only have a wimpy CAI (which I modified to fit) so dont bring out heavily modded Max and make my car looks like a POS. Sorry for the long post.
Peace.
Peace.

Your car is much slower and more expensive than the 5spd in question! The TL-S/CL-S are poor performers relative to cost and HP! Your fooling yourself if you think the TL-S and CL-S are selling well!
Just to let you know a lot of Maxima owners don't like me. Acura owners hate me! I do not represent the opinions of anyone other than myself! Just sick and tired of you Acura girls coming in here whining, complaining, magazine times this..articles that...every time the name Acura is even mentioned in on Maxima.org and especially when it is about your big sis losing. Between me and you only....your car blows even with you lil mods! I would beat you easily with a stock lower cost Max 5spd let alone my Max which has more than enough mods. Stop whining and go up against one of our low cost poor resale value rides! The thread was about a CL-S getting taken down by a stock 222HP 5spd Maxima not about magazine articles or TL and other crap you brought up. Your big sister got beat and I would hate to see how your TL would match up? When I said don't bother posting up here is the fact your an S series wannabe and living vicariously in a magazine article world. "Oh boy the CL-S/TL-S are so great WooWeeeee!" Too bad you don't even drive one! Run along now lil one....

Wheel Horsepower to Weight Ratios (lower is better)
1) MaxSE/5spd+mods: 3199lb / 200whp = 16.00 lb/whp
2) MaxSE/5spd : 3199lb / 183.6whp = 17.42 lb/whp
3) CL-S : 3510lb / 200whp = 17.55 lb/whp
4) MaxSE/automagic: 3245lb / 170whp = 19.08 lb/whp
5) My Accord V6: 3329lb / 160whp = 20.80 lb/whp
I adjusted the chart slightly to show Russ's EXACT power to weight ratio since he dynoed at 183.6whp, and as you can see he holds a very slight advantage over a stock CL-S, most of which dyno right around 200 HP at the wheels (whp).
I do this not to show that the CL-S is faster, nor do I do it to show that the Maxima is faster, but rather just to show your freakin Acura camp boneheads to RESPECT THE MAX because one could easily pull on you BONE STOCK with a capable driver, and Russ didn't even have any performance mods on his car.
So don't come over here flaming and saying there's no way a Maxima 5-spd will beat your beloved CL-S because the numbers prove that it could happen, and the results of these guys in the real world back up the numbers, and Russ's post backs this up YET AGAIN. And every freakin damned time one of your Acura brethren gets beat you guys come over here crying like the freakin little immature twits that you are.
waaa waaa waaaa
A stock Maxima 5-spd can and WILL pull on you, so respect the Maxima.
Now shut up and go home.
And to you CL-S/TL-S guys that come here in peace, thanks. We can learn a lot from each other, but not with twits like Acura2001CL-S clogging up the thread with retard flames and insults that don't even hold up.

See you seem like a reasonable person! Realistic (14.8 with intake is realistic at best for sure...not bad for a ~270HP 2 door car......
I guess it is just ironic you are putting your headers on today?). Just out of curiosity why would you be posting in a Maxima forum? Shouldn't you be posting in a Acura forum where people really honestly care unless of course you were going head to head with a modded Maxima (which would be interesting to post). Stock tires really don't help the Maxima much either. If I want to read about Acura solo times etc..I can do a search on the net and find an Acura site. Not like I'm going to go to the track till I get some reasonable times and run over to the acura forum and start posting times. Go up against a modded Maxima head to head like in this thread and that would make an interesting post. Otherwise if it isn't directly about Maximas please post in our Off Topic forum.

The thread from what I understand is about a head to head race where the CL-S lost in the real world. I've read what acura people have to say 100times in here about how great their cars are... times etc... If I want to learn more as Steve mentioned I can easily find an Acura forum. Not closed minded just don't care to keep reading about Acura times/price/warranty/bs on a Maxima forum at least not in 5th gen forum.... Unless it is head to head I really don't care and can find all the times I want about Acuras on Acura related sites....I come here to read about 5th Gen Maximas not Acura people and their cars or Acuras they wish they had.

The funny thing about this whole argument is that my car is automatic, and it still beats a manual Maxima. To make it a fair comparison let me race a automatic Maxima, I'll only beat it by 4 or 5 cars. I saw that your beloved Maxima lost in a Edmunds comparison to a Ford Taurus, and a HONDA ACCORD, and you people have the nerve to compare a Maxima to a CL-S ha ha! Nissan needs to worry about trying to make the Maxima as good as the Accord. Everyone knows that the only real Japanese automakers are Honda and Toyota, they dominate the market share, Nissan is at the bottom with the likes of Mazda and so on. Nissan and Infiniti's sales are both down in the US. That's why they are on an advertising blitz, trying to reshape their image, with bloated performance numbers. Nissan also has a history of inflating its performance numbers, like on the new Q, saying that it goes 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, when all that Road & Track and several others could get out of it was 6.6 at best, what a joke.

Hi Pizza Boy!
My Pizza is late! Listen phool your a wannabe! Get lost! You obviously don't own a CL-S for real since real CL-S owners who race Maximas for real have reasonably intelligent comments! If you didn't have to keep giving away free pizzas because your late all the time you might be able to save up for an intake and headers for a car you don't even own! Move along now.....

too bad the nissan dealer back in college station was such a dork (and the two I went to here in houston weren't much better), or I'd prolly be driving the black '99 max se 5 spd I was lusting after at the time. c'est la vie.
but the acura is a lease and I can give it back when I'm done with it, so all's well that ends well, right?

Nissan needs to worry about trying to make the Maxima as good as the Accord.
Everyone knows that the only real Japanese automakers are Honda and Toyota, they dominate the market share, Nissan is at the bottom with the likes of Mazda and so on. Nissan and Infiniti's sales are both down in the US.
And just because Nissan's sales lag behind Toyota and Honda in the US doesn't mean they're not a "real" Japanese automaker. From a global perspective, Toyota and Nissan actually DWARF Honda, and Honda is actually a relatively very very small automaker from this worldwide perspective. But then again that's not bad since Honda is actually an engine company first and an auto company second.
If you want to talk about inflated performance numbers, then let's discuss these 6.2sec 0-60 times for the TL-S when the CL-S with IDENTICAL drivetrain and a bit less weight can't get anything better than high-6's to 60mph.
Care to explain that??
Things I found funny
I had this ALL written out till this crappy server wouldn't accept 3 smilies and made me rewrite everything! CRAP!
Yeah, that'll help your argument.
Quick, someone call Ripley!
Step up to the plate. Why not race me? Autocross, road racing, rallycross, bracket drag, etc? Oh, wait, you Honda guys don't race. It's kinda funny how you casually left out racing that involved "DRIVING!"
Funny, those are the only "Acura" guys who actually race their vehicles (Integra guys)... and the one or two NSX guys.
It's funny how you guys think your cars are like benz or BMWs. You have an overpriced, uglier, 2dr accord. Your TL buddies just have an overpriced, uglier, 4dr accord. Get off your high horse. You're driving a rebadged honda with some nicer seats. You have to be pretty flipping stupid to pay more than $25K for a Honda (except the NSX)...
RICER EXCUSE!!! You hear this excuse from Accord v6 owners a lot "Well, if i had a manual..."
I editted the above.
And EVERYONE knows IRS is REALLY good for drag racing (which this thread is based on). IRS is obviously the best suspension design for those powerful launches that those TLs can produce.
Oh wait, IRS is for handling? Then why do TLs handle like crap? Why doesn't Honda race the TL in any racing league or competition (aside that the Accord is their touring car)? I know whym cause the TL/CL's are just such good performers they would dominate, even against the Audis and BMWs. Don't talk about IRS unless you actually know what it does or why it's important.
Not really. GXE and SE have the same HP output. Your lowly TL isn't on the same level as a TL-S or CL-S
Isn't 100% humidity a lake?! What's REALLY funny is that you actually drove around without a back seat~!!
"Hi, my name is Joe. I paid this outrageous amount for my honda cause i think it's luxurious and a top-level performer...but, I'm gonna remove the rear seat and go racing!"
(yes i do know you had your stereo stuff to work on, but, at least put the seat back in...)
Nope, read the first post.

This was my first race, and I have been anxious to run one for a while now. They are very fast cars, especially when that 5spd comes out next year in them. But its no match for the 5spd Max, and I am STOCK.
Too bad soo sad... :P

Rebadged Accord...hmmm with Xenon lights, VSC, TCS, Navi, Sport shift, In dash CD Changer, and a 260hp VTEC engine, that kicks the Maxima's ***!! BTW where is the Navi and the Xenon lights on the Max? Your car doesn't come equipped with them... all you ricers with your aftermarket Xenon lights get a real car!

The SportShift would have been nice, but it's just a gimmick and the gearing sucks anyways, and I didn't need or really want any of the other features so I went with an Accord. The 260HP would have been nice, but I didn't want a 2-dr, and the TL-S wasn't out yet. But for a couple grand in bolt-on's and upgrades I can be putting down about 200whp, which is about what a CL-S/TL-S does while also being close to 300LB LIGHTER!!
In addition to all of this, the Accord also has FOLD DOWN REAR SEATS and more rear leg room than the TL/CL. So I wouldn't have even HAD to take out my rear seats if I wanted to work on stereo stuff because they fold down! DUH!! I thought that was really lame on the Acura's too, and that's another reason why I didn't buy one.
BTW where is the Navi and the Xenon lights on the Max? Your car doesn't come equipped with them... all you ricers with your aftermarket Xenon lights get a real car!

Oh, and my $1800 Honda will beat you in any imaginable race you want to run. Drag race, 0-60, braking, handling, 0-100-0, 0-150-0, slalom, enduro, etc. So, that's the "supreme autocrosser".

well i have been away from this forum for a long time and i can see nothing has changed, first off i have purchased a cl -s trading in the max i still love the max but the cl-s is the faster car hands down, when i was on the highway i felt 90 in the max when i hit 90 in the acura it felt like 60, i also thought the max was once invincible but its really not and by the way 0-60 in a cl s
is about 6.2-6.4 and about 14.8 96 in the 1/4 mile those are the most consisent numbers i have seen. its just going to go back and fourth like the 2002 max will have 260hp 6 speed and the 2003 cl will have a 6 speed 300-320hp engine then who knows from there like i said in another post if u want real performance BUY A M5. peace

"hmm......"
ok, maybe i should clarify myself....i apologize for offending any of the maxima ownerz in here, and im sorry what i wrote turned into this whole messy pile of sh*t but what i was really trying to do was just state the facts from the best of my knoweldge. i could be wrong, and if i am, sorry, it wasn't intentioanl. the reason why i added all that stuff about the xenon lites and stuff was because, if u read the previous stmt. i said that our cars were more expensive b/c of this eqiupment, not any "better" than the maxima's and i also said that i expected this car to be faster for the money which it very well might not be. oh, and to the ignorant fool who made that rude comment about whether or not i even have a CL-S, im sorry to give you a rude awakening but yes, i do drive a C L - S; with my own hard earned money with help from my parents (and i freely admit) b/c i am only 17 but i have a 4.5 gpa and bust my *** to do well in school and ill probably suceed more than rude people like you ever will....and to the people who have kept his thread a neutral/facts-oriented/respectful one, thanks, that was my original intention...no need to hate, cars are a passion, and its all in good fun, no need for any of this crap.
