Starting in 2nd with automatic?

Hi everyone,

Can a 5th gen slushbox Maxima (2000) be forced to start in 2nd gear? I tried putting the shifter in 2nd and it still started in first. I read the owner's manual and didn't find mention of this. Some cars have a way to manually force this, to make standing starts easier in icy weather without sliding the tires.

Thanks.

The gears will progressively shift from 1st on. Just putting the car in 2nd will mean that it won't shift above 2nd gear.

I think what he is really asking is if there is a way his car can start off in 2nd gear

^^^Yep, I know what he was asking and I answered it. The car will not start off in 2nd gear.

not true, you can start in 2nd, 3rd of fourth even, ask jime about his shifting mods, he has a way to lock the trans into any gear at any speed if you really want to

I think he's asking about a STOCK transmission here.

jime's shift-fast-mod, the trans is still 100% stock, you just control the circuits to the solenoids

OK, again. He's not looking for performance from controlling the shifting. He's looking to gain traction in snow/icey conditions.

your point? no matter what reason you use it, starting in 2nd is starting in 2nd. i see what youre saying, im just saying it can be done, whether he would want to use that method or not isnt the question

I'm not trying to prove any point, just trying to answer the author's question.
