2000 Maxima No power @ WOT, no codes

I recently noticed my 2000 Maxima(auto) sometimes has no power @ WOT. I think the problem has been there for a while, but now it's more obvious and happens more often.
I scanned the car today, there are no codes, I recently changed the plugs(NGK G-power) and put in a K&N panel filter, I'm not sure when/if the fuel filter was changed, the car currently has 156k km(100k mi).
Today on my way home I went WOT at about 4500rpm, and it was barelly accelerating, and I think it was pinging as well(these cars are fairly well insulated, so I'm not sure if it was pinging or something that sounds similar). I'm guessing it's running very lean for some reason.
While I had the scanner hooked up, I was checking the sensors, and I think the MAP sensor voltage was stuck at 4.26v, and also the scanner was showing me 2 coolant temp sensor readings, one was reading properly, the other was stuck at -48*C. Do these engines have 2 Coolant temp sensors?
Anyone have encounter similar problems? I know the coils on these cars aren't the greatest, but I'd expect it to throw a code.

Call DaveB and order a new MAF sensor. Problem more than likely solved for less than $100.

Could be MAF, or the fact that you're auto haha

My other car has a 5spd:

I checked the MAF voltage at idle and 2500rpm, and it was within spec(according to mitchell's on demand)
I'm gonna try to run some self diagnostics with another scanner tomorrow and see if it comes up with anything, but I think the MAP sensor is bad, unless it was reading a sensor that's measuring pressure outside of the engine

my guess is failing coils or maf...

Is low end power still good? maybe it's just a broken VIAS solenoid?

It's possible for coils to need replacing without showing a code? how is your mileage?

if u have no power past 4500rpm its most likely a broken VIAS
if u have no power for all rpm its most likely the MAF

hey whn im accelerating it feels like the car doesnt have much power on higher rpms... like ill take it close to about 7000rpm change to 2nd and itll have a boost of power but after like 3000rpm on each gear theres alot less power... is this normal on 2000 5spd

I doubt it's the VIAS, I'll replace the MAF soon

It sounds like the MAF. Especially since you recently added a K&N.

I just put my car in the shop for the same issue. If you were to get into my car and drive off and try to floor it mine would sometimes heistate and the car would not accelerate and other times the check engine light would come on and I would hear a poping sound then go off after I let off the accelerator. Basically I would have to let the car warm up ..even in the warmer months before I have any pickup and go and even then it sucked .

I carried it to a local shop last summer and they could not find anything wrong as it would only happen on startup. The car shut off on wifey a few days ago so we took it to the local toyota dealer (the owner owns a nissan dealership in the next town 30 mins away(long story but local nissan dealership is on our crap list for shaddy service practices) I was told the maf sensor and that my car needed new plugs. They are also looking into my slipping transmission. My car has around 75,000. We have be dreading taking it in for the past year but since it shutoff on wifey and its tax time we decided its the perfect time to get it fixed. I will let you know what happens when I get the car back in a few days.

why do you doubt broken VIAS...that is a very common problem with the 00-01 Maxima, although most people don't realize that their VIAS is broken.

I didnt realize it until I dynoed 170whp/200wtq......with VIAS fixed it was over 200/200....

When my car had no power over 3,000 RPMs I replaced the MAF and it solved my problem. It costs about $100 and it takes 20 minutes to put on (I also have a 2K). It will cost you more than $100 and 20 minutes just to get it checked out by the dealer.

Search the site, there has to be at least a million posts on MAFs.
