sometimes when i pass people on the highway i click O/D off and go by them. It makes me feel like i'm driving a manual LOL I like the feel of it so i do it pretty often. Does anyone know If my transmission will blow out because of this?

Steve...it seems to me that....

you should have taken the time to learn how to drive a stick since you seem to like to always play around with your shifter....

just leave the damn thing alone....yer gonna break it.

i did learn how to drive stick, drove my dads 5 spd bronco all the time. my mom needs to drive this car also and unfortunately she cant drive manual. how bad is the effect of turning o/d on and off when trying to accelerate? does it affect only gas mileage?

Well if you step on the gas its gonna down shift anyway... but sometimes not unless u give it a good step... so ur just doing it sooner, whats the diff?? right...

Yeah I agree. I don't think turning OD off and on at highway speeds will cause any problems. I do it occasionally myself.

o/d

when I had my white Max's transmission rebuilt, the mechanic told me to refrain from doing this becuase it is just like downshifting, particularly when you are going fast in third. He said let the car do it instead. With my new y pipe, my o/d power is greatly increased and I normally don't let it go into 3rd because 4th (o/d) is sufficient.

Ack!

I guess better stop doing this also...I thought it was a nifty way of slowing the car down before I ran into the back of the guy in front of me...(doing like 35-40) Ive also used it on the highway at times....is it really that bad?

And yes I am speaking from a voice of ignorance This is my first automatic in 15 years or so.....
