In Cabin Filter MOD!!!!PICS!!!!

Alright, so i decided to change my in cabin Microfilter today and read through Housecor's directions for the process. I thought that my filter was the reuseable one (which it was), tried to wash it, and the damn thing became non-reuseable.

So, i took the liberty of creating my own lil mod. Not sure if anyone has ever posted on this or not ( i believe chr0nos has). But i went straight to home depot and purchased this for $14.The Dimensions i had taken for this filter were 10.5" X 7.0"...

*Side Note* Keep the Cardboard liner on the filter, have that side lie at the top of the port.

Here is the exact model of the filter i used. i even sprayed it with my favorite cologne before installing it (being that the opposite side of the filter gives off any odor passed through) now the entire car smells like such after spraying the side opposite the filtration side (side where the air is passing through).

heres some pictures of the actual filter taken after cutting.

Enjoy your new scent(if you so choose to do so) but moreso your new in cabin filter. Congrats folks, you also have 2 more filters built into your $14 investment

I can see that we obviously have people on the org that still do not quite read that well . Yea, a brand new filter may cost $30, but what about the next time that you may need to replace it? which it is recommended every 10k miles anyways????Simple math: 30k miles =$90 (which the 30 bucks is pretty good considering both courtesynissan.com and the local dealer wanted 46 for it). 10K miles with this mod=14 bucks----->30K miles still= $14.

Damn i kinda figured i was a lil late, but hey, never hurts to post again, something that can save u $76

heh .. 2.5 hours of driving for me every few days. I've accidently used up entire tanks of gas on single evening/night drives. This car is such a comfortable highway cruiser I don't realize how much I've driven around.

I like the 'mod' .. thanks for the info. The cologne idea is a good one!

I wonder what will happen to your HD filter when it gets wet? Those filters are subject to a lot of moisture.

Well, I , for one, appreciate this thread......

....as it reminded me to clean my micro-airfilters and suck out the dirt, grime, leaves, ect with a small vacuum hose..

...all of which, had not been done, in a very long time...

ty MaxInCt!

ps -

On my '01 the filters are different from yours.....they come with two "bar- like" filters that slide in and out, and are also easy to clean for reuse...

All I did was take out the glove box, pop the clamp on the in-cab-air-box, slide the filters out.......Remove the dirt/leaves/ect by tapping (opposite was of air entry) and or by hand.....Run some hot water in a sink filled with some Dawn (or other good cleaner), and let them soak about ten minutes....

Then I brushed them off a little with a scrub brush, and was able to take out most of the black grime still stuck in there.....Popped them on a towel, and tapped them again for more dirt/grime/ect.....

After that, its pretty much letting them air-dry, (or you can use a dryer, if in a rush)....

As another guy mentioned above, I also sprayed a little frebreeze directly onto the filter, to give it an added touch...

Hope this helps!

And again, ty MaxInCT!
