front brembos and hawks in, did some painting too (pics)

well i did my hawks brembo's (fronts only) and i gotta say the brakes are touchy as hell now, and best of all i can hit hte brakes over 60mph and my front ends dosen't fell like its gonna fall apart lol (old, stock ones were warped as hell @ 48,000).

so here are some pics...i masked them off and hit them with the some engine paint i had lying aroud to keep hte rust off and keep it clean looking...i have to go back and redo all the calipers in the spring with some g2, but for now since i was there this will do.

and yes the car is dirty as hell...they just started salting last week, grrr.

the cat is there for my g.f.

look nice. i just bought hawks hps and going to buy brembo blanks zink platted front rotors tommorow from a group deal store. pads cost me $65 from pepboys and rotors will cost me $85 pair. i am impatient to see the outcome of these new brakes. btw what you paid for pads and rotors?

thanks all, i paid just under $200 to my door from tire rack (where here in a day and a half too).

i would be carefull on hte zinc plating, the plating might f-up the pads with the build up.

o.e. replacments, i though about the zinc ones....but i chose to get normal ones and paint them...i didn't want to screw up my $65 pads.

i think you found a misleading information on zink plated rotors. i dont believe they are hard on pads at all.
do you know IRISH aka JOSH the guy who knows alot about brakes and suspension. he just emailed me back with this>>>

Zinc plated Brembo blanks $84 for Front
i found these at group deals which i am planning to buy. what do you say about these rotors with new hawk hps pads? i dont even know what zink plated means so can you please advice me on these rotors any cons or pros over regular brembo blanks rotors?
thanks.

my only advice with Brembos is to CLEAN THEM GOOD with brake cleaner when you get them, since they will hae a preservative grease all over them that is STICKY!!!.

Sounds like a good deal though.

i'm not missled...think about it for a sec., the whole rotor is "zinc" coated...so at some point in time the surface that the pad contact will no longer have zince on it, where does the zinc go as its worn away? some of it goes on the pads....just like leaving grease on there...

just a thought

so do we consider this one of its cons? i think if we keep them clean with brake parts cleaner spray every after few thousands of miles this issue is pretty minor. btw zinc plated are cheaper than oem brembo's thats the another reason i am leaning toward them. i believe the pair of brembo oem is around $130 and up for my car. and the zinc plated brembos are $84 a pair. but i am continuing on my research may be i will find better price on oem brembo's.

Zinc plated doesn't hurt the pad as it will wear off after a while. While the part of the rotor in which the pads don't touch that is still Zinc plated will help keep rust off for awhile so Zinc plated is a good thing.

zinc pads? i believe you are reffering to zinc rotors. well the price for front blank brembo zinc plated rotors is $84 pair. and for sloted zin plated brembo is $98 pair. i might go for blanks not cuz they are cheap its because blanks are better than sloted in certain ways. and to me its gonna be local pickup from that group deal store cuz its only 5 miles away from where i live. good thing that i will save the shipping cost. and thier customer service is great.

you might be able too, but i usually get it off e-bay...there is something in the group deal section too i believe.

i'd stay away from the dupount stuff that i have seen in hte stores though...i herd it cures fast.

and with hte g2 paint it is more that enough for 2 coats...at least it was on my old gtp

The zinc coating will have no bad effect on the pads...

Just to clear that up...
