Got a speeding ticket today. 38 in a 25. I live off a rural street. It's about 1/2 mile long with maybe 4 or 5 houses off of it set back quite a deal from the road. So I'm coming down this hill approx 8-12% grade. I normally let my speed creep up there rather than just riding my brakes. What do I see at the bottom of the hill? OFFICER PIGGY with his radar gun. So the world is safer because he caught me saving my brakes and increasing fuel efficency. GO TEAM!

I know how you feel...got a ticket last week for doing...get this...68 in a 65 zone. I couldn't believe this cop...everyone knows that the gun can be off by +/- 4 miles and this frigging guy gave me a ticket for doing 68! Must be trying to meet his month-end quota. Gonna fight this!

Sorry to hear it man

Go to court and try and get it reduced. I got a ticket for 82 in a 55 and ended up with no points and only $100 fine. It was my first ticket ever though....

Jon,
Didn't you just get a ticket a little while back? Or was that someone else? Anyway, you should show up for the court date. I hear that judges are more leinient on speeders if the cop was sitting at the bottom of a hill. You might get 0 points like UMD_MaxSe...which is better than a reduced fine if you ask me.

I am right there with you regarding cops though. I will have no choice but to go to driving school if I get nailed again for speeding.

That's harsh that he gave you a ticket for that... here in FL that's illegal, it's even written in the law that 0-5 over is a warning.

Thanks for the support guys. I'm thinking about taking it to court to see about getting it reduced. Too bad WA doesn't have traffic school laws.

They do I believe. I've been to a few. But that was years ago. Better check, if your record is clean, you can request it.

Effin' pigs gave me a 45 in a 25 ticket the 2nd week I had my max. I've been driving on that street for 7 years at the same speed without incident, even with cops. I guess that one had a bad day. Fought it in court and got it lowered to a 2 point ticket (cheap monkeys wouldn't gimme unsafe driving) now I gotta pay the insurance for the next 3 years (in NJ which is very VERY BAD). Then the PD had the nerve to call my house the next week asking for donations. I told them my cop fund is now known as my insurance fund for the next 3 years, check back then...

Morons...

Kinda ironic that I've hit ~85mph on this same street. Heheh... thats really something I shouldn't have done but it was before the apartment complex way at the end was full and its a wide, straight and not very busy street and has great field of vision. The speed limit could and should be raised to 35mph safely.

BTW, in answer to flomax, it's been about 2 years since my last ticket.

3 years ago my brother's friend was going 36 in a 25 zone and we got pulled over but he didn't get a ticket....it's just that some cops are more lenient than others...

Ohhh, stop sign tix suck. You can't bust those down unless the cop doesn't show up for court.

That will work depending on where you live. If it's 0% crime rate Whitetown, the cops won't know what hit 'em with that defense. If it's 1-murder-every-5-seconds Urban Jungle, the cop and his buddies (and possibly the judge) will beat you on the spot. Then follow you home and beat you there too.

arguing it in court here doesn't seem to help at all

i got a ticket for doing 44 in a "25 construction zone"...from the point where i turned out onto the road until the point where the officer pulled me over, there were no construction signs or new speed limit signs, the only signs were on the side of the road that read 40...i took pictures of the area and showed that there were no speed limit signs at all...i argued my case fairly well and in court the cop said i was doing well over 50mph (bs!) and he lowered it so i wouldn't get a criminal speeding ticket...WHEN A COP DOES SOMETHING "NICE" LIKE THAT, THEY ALWAYS TELL YOU HOW THEY ARE HELPING YOU OUT ETC...this cop didn't say anything like that and i know i wasn't going over 50

it was an instant on radar from the other side of the road

i used my defense in court and showed the judge the pictures...she told me that it shouldn't matter if there are speed limit signs or not, i should know what speed is reasonable or prudent...there weren't any cars on my side of the road and only a few on the other side...so i got the full ticket minus $10 because she accidently thought i had a different type of ticket...she didn't lower it on purpose, it was all accidental
