Blower Fan Squealing - 2003 Maxima

Hey guys, did a few searches and didn't see this issue mentioned...

My blower fan squeals a fair amount in the cold, and then stops for a while and occasionally squeals some more randomly during the trip to work (about 30-45 minutes). If I change the speed of the fan it will sometimes get it to stop as well. The sound seems to some from the passenger side dash area.

Does anyone know if it's easy to get the the fan itself (through the glove box or something) to try to lubricate it or potentially replace it? I know some of these procedures on other cars require dash removal which I hope can be avoided.

Thanks for any help you may have,
-Ben

Time to replace. I had mine replaced in Jan 2005

Not sure what you searched for, but it's pretty common. Try "Blower"

I have to think that the above threads and TSB have nothing to do with his question. I have the same exact problem with my blower and none of those threads or any of the threads linked inside of the threads describe what he or I am experiencing.

I get a squealing sound as well, mostly at speeds 1,2 and sometimes on 3. It's more apparent when turning corners. This is mainly due to possible bushing/bearing wear causing the blower blade to loosely move about the shaft while spinning.

Mine began to make noises begin of fall, but now that it is cold as hell out and snowing I have yet to be able to tear apart the blower and see if I can fix this myself.

I believe I'm in the same boat now.

I had the same issue about 3 months ago, and it wound up being the fan motor backing off.....So I removed the fan assembly (two bolts and lift), cleaned it up with some parts cleaner, tightened the screws back up, and put it back on....

Unfortunately, the motor in the assembly was just about shot, and still made the same squeal/rattle, that you mentioned above...

Next day, went to the junk yard, found a nice 2000 parts Maxima, and pulled off the fan assembly to see if it worked....Popped it in right at the junk yard, and bam, No more squeals!

Used fan assembly cost me $40 bucks, and can be fixed in just a few minutes....

Hope this helps!

I just had to handle this same issue last month. I took it out, lubed it and reinstalled it. It worked fine for a few days then took a total dump and blew the fuse too. I replaced it with a $50.00 used one from a junk yard on car-parts.com. Nissan wants around $180.00 for a new one.

The swap is really easy. Anyone should be able to handle it. All you need is a philips screwdriver.

I have the same problem. Mine is a constant squeal now, no matter what setting. Im sure its going to just give up within the next few days. Luckily I was able to find a brand new blower on eBay for $35. Seller says brand new, and it came in looking brand new. I'm probably going to install it this weekend, depending on how cold it is.

Just got mine replaced 2 weeks ago. The shaft is off balance because of the bearings went bad.

My car's blower started acting funny over the past few weeks as well. The past 2 mornings it sounded something like chewbacca waking up with a hangover.

I've got an appointment with the stealership to have my blower checked/replaced tomorrow. I would go the junkyard route, but I still have my extended warranty, so I'll make them put in a brand new replacement piece.

do you have a deductable on your extended warranty? Cuz if you do, and its $75 or more, it might be cheaper doing it yourself rather than going thru warranty.

My deductible is $50. I'd rather have a new fan than go to the junkyard and possibly buy one for cheaper, which could crap out on me. And if the new fan eventually dies, I'll get that replaced for free.
