Front Bumper Painted

Yep, its about that time. Should I have just the front bumper resprayed or do they need to blend the sides and hood?

Mine is a 2002 Black.

Depends on how good the shop is...

The shop I bring mine to does not really need to blend into other panels, they are really good at color matching.

I am looking to do this on my car also. Damn rock chips all over the front end. I like to know what a body shop is charging for you for you to do this? I have been quoted $900. I think that is way to much.

$900 is WAY too much.

$250-$300 is what I would expect to pay.

You are absolutely correct, I paid 250 for my front bumper repaint.
All you need to do is the bumper I dont think they need to blend anything since they use an exact color code to match your factory paint (mine turned out perfect)

I need to repaint my bumber and fron of hood too. Damn chips... and damn construction trucks GRrr...

Even if you use the factory code paint, you may still need to blend. As the paint ages and cooks from the UV, it will change. So fresh paint may be more brilliant, thus see the difference.

I will be painting mine by my self. So I just need the supplies... I'd hate to have to pay 900 for a bumper paint job, which is high, especially if there's no real prepping involved.

How about Xpel and the like. I've heard it is advised not to use Xpel after a repaint. Any truth to this?

Just do the bumper, the only difference will be the gloss

+2. I paid (well, actually Nissan paid) $525 for bumper AND hood.

Also high...

$400-$450 is more like it.

I could have had my Hood alone refinished for $200.

My 03' bumper has been repainted twice now by Nissan, and for the 3rd time the chips be multiplying like rabbits (even before sanding and salting started)... All done with Nissan and the multiple b*llsh*it issues I've had with my piece of sh*t Max... Glad I did not sink extra $ into the 3M mask now as so many other things just have me fed up and ready to dump the damn thing and run... Good luck on your repaint though.

It should not hurt it if the paint has fully cured before applying it.

Any chance you have an aftermarket bumper? or did they just repaint over the old stuff without stripping down to the plastic? That is what Colonial Nissan in Feasterville, PA did to me? Thank god for American Express disputability.

They did strip it down to base material, re-prime, & repaint. I know a guy inside this shop and I had him confirm all this as they did the job. Being a Nissan shop, they either use crap materials (my guess) or don't know what they are doing. I had a 94 Alti that I ran for 9 years, 170,000 miles, and that bumper was in better shape after all that, than the 1 year repaint on the Max.

I'm just ready to fly the Nissan Coop...

If they're a good shop, they shouldn't have to blend in the fenders & hood. I was quoted recently somewhere between $350-$450 for the front bumper & hood. Can't remember exact price, but it wasn't too bad. I got my rear bumper done & they would have given me a great deal on the front, but I chose to wait. This was at Carstar. I think they have locations around the country & are fairly reputable.

On a side note, if you do decide to get the front repainted, consider getting a clear bra to protect your new paint from future rock chips & bird bombs.

You were lied to... They don't "stip to base" on our plastic bumpers. It takes to long and is likely to damage the bumper.

They usually "rough up" the paint and paint over the old paint. If you want a fresh surface you need to buy a new bumper cover.

If a shop is not that good, the new paint WILL chip and peel really easy.

If you put on an XPel after repaint, have a professional take it back off. Not knowing any different, Nissan repainted my hood and bumper (shop - "We bake it, it's ready to go, wax or whatever"), and a few days later had the XPel put back on.

FF to three years later, I'm taking off the bra to sell the car since it had turned a bit yellow. It's really hard to peel, then RIPPPPPP - it tears up about three inches of paint!!! Sigh...

Oh well, at least the second repaint took care of any rock chips...

i repainted my bumper and fixed a huge dent for like $350 and the color came pretty close to the other parts of the car. the new paint seem to be better too cuz it doesn't crack. when some car backed into my front bumper my stock paint cracked and peeled off =/ but with the new paint it held on pretty good. nissan paint sucks lol

Someone has to have a better write up on the bumper removal than Haynes?

Do I need to remove the headlights and foglights to get the bumper off?
