Does Cattman Y-pipe have a distinctive sound

Hi,

I'm considering getting a Cattman y-pipe to replace my precat. If I leave everything else in the exhaust stock, will the sound change at all?

Thanks.

yes...you will have a deeper growl under acceleration. check the exhaust sticky for sound clips.

I couldn't find just a y-pipe sound in the sticky. There were too many combos.

It will change slightly, as already noted by others.

Btw, which pre-cat is bad? Your 2001 should be Cali spec and only the rear precat is in the y-pipe. The front precat is between the front exhaust manifold and the y-pipe, so replacing the y-pipe won't do anything to help that.

See diagram below:

I don't know. This is exactly where I need your expertise. I'm pulling the P0420 code. I thought this pointed to the precat (the one towards the front of the car). So I figured rather than buying a new precat for $460 I could just buy the y-pipe for $350, which I thought replaces the precat. Do I have this right? I wish someone could clarify this for me. Thanks.

You should be fine then. The code P0420 is for Bank 1, which is the rear bank. The Bank 1 precat is the one on the y-pipe, so a replacement y-pipe should solve your problem.
