exhaust leak or tranny slip???

i have an auto 2k se that's been making wierd noises lately. hopefully someone here can lend some advice.
the car makes whoosh whoosh type sounds from underneath the car at different levels of throttle, but mostly when i hold it mid-throttle like when going up a mild incline. more noticable when i'm at speed around 25-40 mph.
also more noticable when cold. when accelerating onto a freeway, it will do it at the shift points. it is accompanied by a slight hesitation like it wants to engage but it's not. if i gas a bit more, it goes away.

i thought it may have been an exhaust leak, but my local muffler shop just looked at it and said there was no visible damage. they did find a busted rear motor mount and possibly the side one too. the front was replaced a couple years ago. any possibility the motor mounts could cause the noise and hesitation?

also, i'm now thinking it may be my tranny slipping, but i don't know what that's supposed to be like. does it sound like tranny slip symptoms?

any advice is much appreciated. thanks.
