Damn Ignition got me stumped!!!!
Got a question let me break down the scenario...
Alright found out me ignition switch was bad, so i went about and took out the panel and took the electrical mechanism out and turned it with a screwdriver and the car turned on fine. that led me to believe that the mechanical part of the ignition was bad, so i went to the used auto parts store and got a whole steering column out of a same 2000 Nissan Maxima SE, and took out the mechanical ignition switch out of the column and put it on my column, installed the whole ignition switch put my panel back on and everything and when i try to crank it, it never turns ova jus acts like it wants to crank up but it never turns over. so i was wondering do you have to reset anything to the new ignition switch that i have or what?? I also checked to see if there was any fuel gettin to the engine and when i sprayed started fluid into the air hose, it acted like it wanted to crank up but never did, so i was jus wondering if you guyz have any input with this problem. thanks....

so you need that chip in your original keys to communicate with your BCM and allow for engine to start. I don't know exactly what you replaced but you could use original key to open doors or remote and then if you did not remove the part that comunicates with your key from the column you can duct tape one of your original keys underneath the dash so it thinks the original key is in the cylinder wehen you crank. That's how they wire up remote starters. Car won't start without key aaround steering column so they just duct tape one of your keys inside dash and allow for the starter to crank the switch.
In that year if it doesn't like the key ID it will start the engine but after a second it will turn off the engine. So i think it's some other issue though.
