o2 Sensor Replacement/ECM Reset Required?

I got a p0135 error and I'm at the miles where I figure it's time to replace both front o2 sensors. I got the OEM replacements wholesale and I found a shop to do it for less than $80, but they want to charge me extra to push a button to reset the ECM. I can't figure out why I can't wait for the ECM to clear the code itself.

Any reason why ECM should be reset at replacement time? The sensor circuit itself can be checked with a meter.

Disconnect your battery for a few hours and your ECU will be reset and the codes cleared.

I reset the ECU after changing two sensors, but it's no big deal if you don't reset it. After a few cycles the SES light will go away by itself if the O2 sensors were the only problem.

Thanks guys. I know that i can disconnect the battery or just wait for the code to clear, but I wanted to make sure that there wasn't some reason I hadn't thought of to reset the ECM at replacement time or the shop is just hose me for a few extra bucks.

They may have meant ECU reprogam. I've heard the 2000 ECU's have to be updated with O2 replacement (might be for cali models...) If you have a jack, they're not too hard to replace yourself - I just did.

i believe you don't have to reset the ecm after an o2 sensor install. though some argue you should get it after replacing a MAF sensor.

As you know, an ECM reflash can only be done with a Consult II which I got a dealer to do for free last month since they jerked me around with other work.

I'm not getting under the car without at least jack stands. Since I don't know anyone in the business around here that I can borrow stuff from, I admit that I'd rather pay someone to do the work than spending the time getting the right equipment together to do the job right. I'm just not happy that this one shop is trying squeeze more cash from me with a bullsh** story.

Sounds like you should be fine if you had a recent reflash but if the code comes back you can give them some Sh**.
