ECU reflash pricing.....

Just wondering what prices everyone has paid for an ECU reflash. My dealer is giving me bs about there being a diag charge, so the total for the flash is gonna be $125.00, which I think is wrong (read around here that the official Nissan stance is .7 hours of labor, not 125.00).

And that has to do with the reflash because why

If he vehicle needs the reflash, it is not because of an o2 sensor. More likely related to a MAF.

The original poster needs to be a little more specific. Why are you getting a reflash, is it necessary, and if so, how is the car running?

usually a dealer can chage an hour of labor for the ecu update,.. so whatever their hourly rate is,... also why are you getting the flashing?,.. do you have a CEL on? ..or did u just put a new maf in or something?

you are correct nmexmax i was under the assumption that a reflash was because of low flow left bank code related to 02 simulator my mistake

ALL places that work on cars have a sign with their rates with the statement "minimum one hour labor".

nissan says that it takes .7 hours for their internal use. the service department knows how long it should take.

Sorry I wasnt clear enough, was in a rush

I had the P0138 code, so I replaced the O2 sensors....technically needed a reflash after that, but didnt really care.

Replaced my MAF last night, because apparently the old one was bad. The car drives completely different now, but because of the new MAF I wanted a reflash to fix the gas mileage. So I told the dealer to do the reflash because of the O2 sensor TSB, and the MAF "went along for the ride" if you will.

My dealer charged me their diag fee, not 1 hr of labor. So the total was 125+tax. Kinda nuts.......Im assuming they are doing it so they can recoup some of the $$$ that I didnt pay them by putting the sensors in myself.

BTW, I talked to Nissan corp. and their stance was that any dealer can charge whatever they want. I brought up the fact that the TSB says .7 hours of labor, they said "we dont publish the TSBs publically, so any number you see is probably on an unofficial copy of the TSB". What a load of crap.

I recently took mine in for a reflash after I replaced the MAF. They charged me a flat $55. The service writer asked where I had the MAF replaced, told her I did it, she said no problem.

I was going to say to call other dealers.

And since we live in the same town, a little advice. Never, ever deal with Napoli Motors service department in Milford. I got them to do mine for free, but that was after I caught their major incompetence and lies with other work.

one hour of labor or whatever the dealer wants to charge for the reflash is correct..

I don't understand what they are charging "daig" for.. Did you go in and ask the service advisor for the reflash or tell the service advisor "I replaced my maf and now have poor fuel economy"? Was the MIL light not cleared? If so they could charge diag to diag the MIL light if you authorized it.

Do it for free in your driveway, if the light stays on, than you have an issue to resolve.

Excuse me. He's talking about a ECM reprogramming, not a simple reset. A dealer needs to do that.

reflash and reprogramming are the same thing (updates software)
both are different than a reset (resets existing software to factory setting)

I hear ya on that one! I actually was "****" about it, and would only let an Infiniti dealer work on it (its an 01 i30, but this forum seems to get many more views/replies). I didnt even call Napoli.....judging from your experience, Im glad I didnt bother. I was going to let them work on my truck (01 Frontier), but Ill stick with doing the work myself or using someone else.

The funny thing is that D'Addario Nissan wanted a flat 1 or 2 hours of labor (89.00 or 180.00), I asusme it would have ended up to be 1 hour if I had actually gone with them (again, didnt want a Nissan dealer touching the Infiniti). I went with Harte Infiniti and they wanted 125.00.

BTW, they didnt charge an additional diag fee.........they charged JUST their diag fee. Probably to squeeze just a little more $$$ outta me.......1 hr of labor is 97.00, so they got an extra 28.00 by calling it a "diag" service. This is why I hate going to dealers........every way they feel like $crewing you, they do it. In fact Ive decided Im not even going to them for oil changes anymore......Id rather spend extra time and money to do it myself with synth products.

The dealer I went to for the reflash was Hawkinson Nissan in Matteson. I happened to be working nearby and I dropped it off at lunch. I actually had my daughter's Max there about a year ago and at that time they charged $47. They said their labor costs went up and now it was $55.

That is cheap for this area. Last I looked, about two years ago, the dealer I would go to charged $95.

I have a feeling they only charged 1/2 hour labor when most other dealers charge a full hour.
