77K Service

Hi,

Good Morning.

I need some advice for some badly needed service for my car.

For the past year, I was out of the country and had left it with a cousin who badly maintained it. I am not sure any major service has been done on this car. -- I bought it when it was just around 30K, and it did seem that that service was performed, but none ever since.

Now, at 77K, the check engine light has shown after I drove it from New York last night -- it was raining heavily so I am not sure if it has anything to do with it.

I have a couple of questions:

(1) I called a couple of dealers around and they indicate I need the 60K service...which costs around $450. What do I really need to do --- most of the items consist of inspections....

I would appreciate some advice on what needs to be done....which could be done at dealers, and which elsewhere?...

(2)Secondly, I have a coupon for my local dealer (Drexel Hill Nissan) for the following services:

-- Auto Transmission Service = $64.95
-- 4 Wheel Computerized alignment = 79.95
-- 30 minute oil change & 14-point inspection = 28.95
-- 30 minute wiper replacement and 27-point inspection = 23.95

Are these reasonable charges?

(3)I was thinking of going for the wiper replacement and 27-point inspection so that I have some idea about the mechanical status of the car.... Would this be a good idea?

In appreciation, MN

hmm.. im assumeing you are not at all mechanically inclined.. and dont change your own oil?? also ,.. wipers cost like 10-15 bucks(both) at walmart and u can change them yourself in 30 seconds,...

and IMO their 27 point inspection... mm great.. its going to end up,.. "well we ADVISE that you need ..blah blah blah blah blaH BLAH",.. so waste of time..they will end up bruning a hole in your pocket for no reason

also go to auto zone/advanced auto,.. and ask them to read your code,.. its free,.. then report back in here and someone will help you...

the alignment is not necessary,... and would only be worthwhile if your car doesnt drive straight...

if ur car was not maintained in the last year pleasse go change your oil or have it changed,.. i think thats all u should get done....

Wiper replacement is something that should not be paid for. One tab, push down to remove. Pull up on new wiper. Done.

In addition to having the code read and changing the oil I'd probably replace drive belts, do a transmission and coolant service, replace the air filter, clean the throttle body, and do the BG44k treatment...

Wherever you get your tires rotated should let you know if you need brakes, if any suspension components need attention, and if you need an alignment.
