reset SES but not codes?
reset SES but not codes?
I've been using the ECU reset procedure for a while. [3 seconds, accelerator 5 times, 7seconds, hold accelerator for 10+sec...etc]
My SES light comes on once in a while showing me a 138 and/or 158. I usually reset it, and it's fine. (i have o2 sims. Probably a brief interruption in signal or something). However, when I reset the light, all the codes that were stored in my ECU are also erased. I'd like to keep old codes in there for warranty purposes.
Is there anyway to reset/turn off the SES light without clearing all my codes?
thanks.

You can't turn the light off yourself unless you disconnect it without resetting the ECM, which will clear the error codes.
The light will turn itself off if there's no error detected after what the ECM is programmed to consider 3 "trips."
In that case the error codes will be stored for 40 or 80 "trips" depending on the error.
Wouldn't your exhaust mods have voided your warranty anyway?

If you have O2 sims and they were connected correctly, they should not be setting off your CEL. I installed the dual O2 sim when one O2 went bad on me and have not had any issues with it for 30k miles.
I went to Autozone and had them read my codes....P0325 Knock sensor and P0420 cat efficiency below threshold bank 1...sounded like BS to me so I went back to Autozone 3 days later. Showed them a piece of paper w/ a knock sensor on it (to "prove" that I tried to fix it...they didnt even look at it) and they plug in the OBD-II and erase them...Cost $0.00

Haha I know they don't care...its just if you call them up on the phone they say they will not do it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the light came on...the same thing happened on my dads car and it never came back so I figured it was worth a shot...as opposed to spending $300-400 to fix it...only cause it will not hurt the car at all.
