Tranny problems 5/60k warranty question
I just picked up an 02 max a couple month back. The car currently has 59k miles on it. The transmission is making a wierd sound when I put it into drive or reverse. I am just curoius how the 5 year portion of the warranty works. Is the car covered since its under 60k miles? or is it no longer covered because i'm assuming it has passed the 5 year mark. How is the 5 year portion of the warranty determined? The date the car was made?
Either way gonna take it to the dealership and see what they can do.
THX in advance for any help

It's 5 years (from date of purchase/first registered) or 60k mi, whichever comes earlier. If NNA says it's not under warranty, I'd run out and buy one, esp if you're an auto. Mine died at 36k mi, got replaced entirely. I just found out today that, at 80k mi., the trans. is dead yet again and will need to be replaced entirely (even after keeping up w/the maint. religiously). Just waiting on my warranty company now to see if they're gonna cover it. I've been carless for a week now...so much for Nissan quality.

Well I called NNA and unfortunatly the warranty was over 12/06. So now I may go purchase a warranty from somewhere. Does anyone have a company they would recommend for purchasing one? One that covers the tranny 100%

I have my warranty through them, they have covered everything without a question.

Try searching on here, there have been a lot of threads re: extended warranties from third parties. I've heard good things about Interstate and Warranty Direct. Warranty Direct is a bit more pricey than the competition. I bought my National Auto Care Pinnacle warranty from a warranty broker ( www.smartautowarranty.com ). Cost $1400, $0 deductible/36 mo./extra 50k mi, bumper to bumper exclusionary with 0% financing, $110/mo. I'll post back w/in the week to give my review on how NAC is dealing w/this issue. So far, on this claim, they haven't been meeting my expectations...it's been 2 days and the dealer hasn't heard anything from them. Previously, with a $500 claim, NAC was a pleasure to deal w/according to my mechanic.
EDIT: If cost is an issue for you, I'd just buy a major components warranty from a reputable place like Warranty Direct. From my experience so far, Max's seem somewhat reliable making it not absolutely necessary to go w/a full bumper to bumper warranty. I just went w/a B-to-B warr. b/c law schl's almost conditioned me to be super paranoid :P
