HELP!!!!!- Car won't start......need advice!

The car, for the last 6-7 months would make a weird sound when starting from cold; sounded like a cow groaning. The sound would last for the first second once I turned the key and then it would always start. When warm the engine does not make that sound.

This evening I tried to start it and it turned over once made that noise and did not start. After repeated attempts it would not even turn over and and now nothing!! The battery is a 5 month old OPTIMA RED and the lights are bright when I turn them on. The car has 106K on the odometer and the timing belt/chain has NOT been changed yet....

I think that it may be the starter......what do you guys think?
I am in desperate need of help from the Org members

thanks,

Angelo

sounds like a bad starter to me...you can remove it and take it to a place like advance auto, autozone, etc and they can test it.

+1

Sometimes you can tap on it a couple times and free it up too, but that's a temp fix that isn't always feasible to do everyday

As far as I know there's no need to change our timing chain's for "the life of the car"...but has anybody actually had to change theirs?

I tapped on the starter several times with a hammer......in the beginning you didn't even here the "click" from the starter when I turned the ignition key but after a few hammer hits it would "click" but still not start... I will try to remove it tomorrow.

Anyone know the best place to get a replacement starter for a 2K max?
