I bought both of these lights off of ebay in seperate auctions. If you check frequently, you can find lights for around $100. Over the past couple months I have been working on painting and clearing them. It's taken a long time because I've been busy with school. The process could be easily done in a day (but I like to let paint cure for a week before messing with it). On to the pics.

The lights as they looked before sticking them in the oven (~7 min at ~220 degrees).

Masking.

A few coats of primer. No need to use high-temp paint b/c HID's run cooler than Halogens.

More primer

This is the amber portion traced around the Malibu Home-Depot inserts.

Dremeling around my tracing. Only took about two minutes per side. A must do if you have the lights divided.
One side done.

At first I thought the only option was to buy the $50 courtesyparts wiring kit to install the lights. After doing some research I found that the only plugs you need to find are a 9005 plug ($3 at advance auto parts), and the turn-signal plug. But Nissan refuses to sell the turn-signal plug on it's own, so most people are forced to buy the full $50 kit. I discovered that the side-marker plug is ALMOST identical to the turn-signal plug. 30 seconds of dremeling will allow it to fit. The side-marker plugs can be had for around $20 shipped. With the 9005 plug, and the side-marker plugs, the HID's can be installed by splicing for around $26 as compared to $50. Even cheaper if you go to a yard and find some side-marker plugs.

Didn't get any pics of the spraying of the black paint. I read of many people using flat black and a few using gloss. I declided to use satin semi-gloss black. Here's a few pics of the finished product.

Like most people, I wired them so that the high-beams are allowed to stay on with the low-beams if desired.

Low-beams (much better than the stockers).

Lows combined w/ highs.

Well, as far as HID's go, the Maxima's are pretty low on the performance scale but far superior to halogens. Plus, $250 for the completed project is not too shabby. My self made AE's are now available if anyone's interested.

looks great! I hope to do this one day. Glad to know you can get the HIDs for relatively cheap on ebay if you find the right deal. Take some pics during the day so we can see what the black looks like under the light
