ummm...to protect your whole electrical system from a surge and to protect your battery from a surge from the alternator.

I've been wanting to change out the crappy stock cables. Is there a way I can rewire the two wires coming off the battery (to the starter and fuse box) with better cabling and a inline 120A fuse? As I can see, one wire goes to the starter (I think it's fused with the 120A fuse) and other goes to the fuse box on the driver fender side (it also seems fused by the same 120A fuse). How would I be able to wire both with the same fuse? Or should I just use seperate fuse for each wire? I know it's pointless and not worth the time but I just want to do it for the heck of it. And I also have alot of 1/0 ga. wire!

maybe the same way it was done from the factory? That fuse is the first line of defense to shorts to the rest of your car's wiring.

Search for Metal Maxima's Big Three thread, many of us have done this mod. It does not remove the factory wiring, it adds to it.

And to the poster who said Nissan's grounding system is **** retentive, please explain.

I have already done the Big 3. But I want to replace the stock wiring because the stock battery pos terminal doesn't fit correctly on my Optima battery. This is the reason why I want to switch out the crappy stock cables with some 1/0 cabling. After looking over it again, it seems that the 120a fuse is inline with the wire that comes from the alternator. My question is, does the 120a fuse also protect the wire that goes to the fuse box on the very side next to the battery?
