Thinking of replacing spark plugs...
What is the benefit of changing the spark plugs other than a minor change in performance if your plugs are fouled etc. obviously it would run a little better and such, but im at 58k and thinking about getting the ngk platinum plugs which would cost me about 60 bucks give or take. then i started hearing about people who changed their own plugs, which i plan to do, saying their rear valve cover cracked and there was oil in the coil pack well or whatever. then they needed a new valve cover = time and more money. I already got a new pcv valve that i will put in, and a new fuel filter i will install when i get a chance and i am starting to wonder wheather i should even mess with the plugs as long as its running well and performing.
Any input or opinions would be appreciated
Thanks

I don't believe there's any reason to change your plugs unless:
They're due to be replaced
You have an ignition problem
You have made an engine mod that requires a different plug
You've got nothing better to do,
but you will get many opinions that have been posted many times before.

I realize that this is a posted and reposted topic, but i was just wondering about the new (or new to me) information of the oil in the spark plug wells problem and the cracking of the valve cover. I am aware fully of the arguements for and against changing plugs early and the minimal to no performance gain plugs give.
Thank you for your response

Since I don't plan on owning this car for another 100k miles, it's something that hopefully I will never have to think about again.
I don't doubt that you will get other responses that are 180 degrees in opposition to what I said, but I can only relate my own experience and opinion.

Don't replace it unless there is a known diagnosed issue related to it. Waste of money.
