I've installed clear bumper lenses (front and rear) yesterday, along with 5-led 194/168 bulbs. This caused the 10A fuse for the taillight circuit to blow. I installed PIAA super white bulbs instead and the system operates fine. I know the resistance of led's are low, but low enough to blow a fuse? Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to install resistors or load equalizers to keep from blowing fuses?

There is no way LEDs, when installed/wired properly will blow a fuse.
Unless you wired them up reverse, they shorted out and blew the fuse.

You need to realize, it would take a total of 120w to blow that fuse. Thats TWO normal halogen headlight bulbs.

5 LED bulbs... x2 is 10 LEDs, IF they were the insane 320mA LEDs, thats still only 3.2amps which I would highly doubt since those LEDs need heat syncs per LED.

So either the LEDs are bad (which is possible), they are plugged in wrong, or there is another problem with your electrical system.

 

I also have 5 led 168 bulbs for my front and rear clear side markers for over a year now and I didn't have any problems. Maybe its the leds tht you are using. I got mines from autolumination.com

 

Ive noticed if you put the 194 leds in the socket to far the resistor soldered on the bulb itself touches the contacts in the connector, check to see if thats a issue, mine work fine so far, but if i press them into the socket to far they dont work and short out.

 

Thanks for the help guys. There must be a problem with the bulbs themselves then. They were purchased from superbrightleds.com. I know it was the leds because everything worked fine with all four bulbs removed. When reinserting them, the fuse blew again as soon as the first bulb touched the connector. I didn't have a chance to push it in. I have the PIAA 194 bulbs in now and no more fuses have blown. I just don't like the color of these bulbs.

 

Did you make sure, you shut off you electrical system? with the ignition off before you install them. 'cause from what my understanding of your expalanation "as soon the first bulb touched the connector." that can cause you the problem because when the ignition on that means your connector has electricity on your connector and when you tried to put it on. the connector has a sprak cause from the butt of the bulbs itself. when the spark happens your fuse automaticly blow.
