Crazy OEM Navigation question

I have an '02 6Spd with factory navigation. The factory nav has the climate controls integrated into the display with the cheesy Bose head unit below. I'm wondering if the factory nav dies, or if I want to put a different HD or DVD navigation unit in the dash, what would my options be for fixing the absent climate control? Does anyone know if I could throw in a climate control from a non navigation max and put a different head unit in?

It sounds kind of weird to want to do this, but I'd think about it if I knew it could be done.

If it dies, I want an alternative to spending 2g's on a nav system that is less detailed than my portable TomTom.

as with any other climate control install (i assume you would do the auto) you would need the unit, and the wiring. im pretty sure your car already has the sensors. now that i think about it, it might be wired since i assume the wires would be the same since you essentially have auto climate control just the controls are in the nav. you may just need the unit

you would want to get rid of the nav since its CD based as slow vs an aftermarket one that is DVD or hardrive based

It definitely has all the wiring and sensors. It's just a control module that I would need. The answer I'm looking for is, is it plug and play with a normal climate control module.
