wierd problem (a little long)
Had my engine swapped about 3-4 weeks ago at the dealership under warranty for oil burning issues. I've been keeping the speed down, not babying it, but not driving as hard as I normally do. I have about 2000 km on it so over the last few days I've been giving it a little harder.
Any way, my problem is this. When I am in second gear at around 5-6000 rpm, the dashlights go dim, and the ebrake light and the battery light both come on. They only flash for a brief time, I had to do this 3 or 4 times to even notice which lights were flashing. The only thing I know that is different with the engine is that they removed 3 wires from my custom grounding kit. But something tells me that's a coincidence.
Obviously I will be going back to the dealership to have this looked at, but anyone out there have any ideas as to what might be happening?

more than likely the belt is not turning the alternator at that speed and is freeballing. Its either worn or wasn't put back on correctly. Do these cars have a separate belt for the alternator or just the one serpentine belt? If its only the one, its likely the tensioner was not put back on correctly. Take it in and have them fix it-

there are 2 belts but I don't know which does which, I don't hear any squealing though. I noticed tonight that at around 3k rpm the lights dim then by 4k rpm the battery and ebrake light start flashing at me.

As Madsci alluded to, check the tension on the alternator belt. The alternator is driven by the main accessory belt. Sounds like it needs to be tensioned up some. Make damn sure that you loosen the center idler (tensioner) pulley bolt before turning the adjuster bolt, and retighten after. If the alt. and brake lights are off other than at the higher RPM like you stated, then that's a pretty good indication that the alternator is probably OK.

i'll let the dealer try that next week. they also have to fix my washer nozzle. I'm only getting fluid on passenger side. seems they muckes that up when they removed the hood. I will however check the belt tightness in the morning.
