Berk Installed - NICE

Installed the Berk w/AEM Dryflow combo last weekend. I am very pleased.

I know it has been said many times on here, but the sound is truly amazing....found myself showing it off all week long! Can't beleive I waited so long to do this mod. There is a cool slight "hissing" sound at light throttle tip-in. Even at lower rpm, at the moment you apply full throttle there is a noticible sound. And of course at full throttle/higher rpms it sounds like a "roar".

The install was easy once I realized to remove the rubber boot around the stock MAF tube.

And the best part is the performance increase. I did I did test runs from 50-80mph (4 stock and 4 Berk) on the same strech of road at the same temperature and averaged 0.34 seconds gain (using stopwatch, 6.32 Berk vs. 6.67 stock). The results are obviously emperical and subject to timer error, but the time differential is also consistent between runs (i.e Run 1 stock vs. Run 1 Berk, etc.).

^ My thoughts exactly... I'd like to get a Berk or maybe an ebay CAI, but don't want to loose my low end and I don't quite trust ebay parts.

my car pulls just fine at lower RPMs
so did my 00.

if i feel i dont have the low-end torque...i down-shift. its never an issue from a start.

i bet the "loss of low end" problem is a result of auto trannies.

I took the bish out and sprayed it with MAF cleaner. No probs. Although, I have the alledged stronger 2003 MAF.
As far as I can tell, the cleaner didn't do anything, no butt dyno results. At least I know it's clean!!

Any intake typically needs some AFR attention. No intake should be complete w/o some sort of AF conditioning.

Pep Boys has the MAF clnr by a company called CRC. And yes, you just spray it down. The can says to spray it with like 15 passes....which bascially means spray the heck out of it. NO WIPING! It is a very volataile spray that evaps off very fast.

I have the same exact Berk with that dry flow AEM filter. I do like how it sounds, and expecially that wistle on low RPMs. I"m not a big fan of that roar on high RPMs though, but I think it sounds better from outside than the inside.

Anyways you did 50-80 in 6.3 sec? That's sounds like kinda a little slow or it could be just me! Hmmm gotta give it a try! lol

The car in my avatar averaged 5.9 sec in similar testing after intake install....although the temps were closer to 100 deg when i did those tests (vs. 70 for maxima tests). Anyway, i would say a maxima is doing pretty good to be within a half second of a car with 320 wheel hp

hmmm 320 at the wheels, what car was it? I guess Maxis are not that slow after all, I'll give mine a try, see what I can get.

It's obviously a WS6 'yam.

320 @ the wheels = some pretty decent bolt ons.

i have a question for those who posted engine bay pics....how come the support bracket at the base of the filter? the berk kit didn't come with this and when i called about it, they said it wasnt necessary. just curious...

Same here. I used aluminum stock and made a side bracket mounted to wheel well (seen in pic) and a lower bracket. You can not see the lower bracket, but it bolts to the lower left hand MAF bolt and then to where the original air-box bolted to the lower battery tray.
