Of all the things to break.......
This Meridian Ed 02' only had 33K miles when I bought it 2 months ago. This past weekend this damn ON/OFF button broke off. Of all the buttons to break off it would have to be this one. Now we can't turn the heat a/c system off anymore. I'm really surprised how cheap this little button was attached on the back.

No go.... It's not push directly straight on type switch or I would of fiqured that out already, believe me. If you see those two white spots on the bottom pic, those were the button broke off at. So when you hit the button those white plastic pieces must move upwards somewhat and make contact. I'm thinking about making some mini metal strips about 2mm x 5mm and sliding them under the white pieces and see if moving them up will shut the system down, if so, then I need to fiqure out a way to get the strip into the OFF Button.
Either that.....or there had to be something that fell out of that hole under the rectangular box(light) and when you pushed the OFF button it pushed a small rod or shaft in that hole and shut the system down. I did not find anything on the floor of the car.

WOW...now that is retarded. Take the unit out...open it up..and try fabricating some sort of clip or trigger mechanism. Maybe wire it to a switch and just epoxy the button back on there..and control on/off through a switch?? GL with that.

You can try haggling with your dealer for some sort of cheap/free fix... GL, though. Once you buy a used car and it leaves the lot, they want you to cover EVERYTHING... My damn dealer had a 50/50 warranty for 30 days on my Max, and tried to pay only half of a valve body replacement BEFORE taxes...

Well I ended up fixing it myself. I guess all the industial arts classes paid off in school. The piece that goes in the small hole under the light fell inside the unit and was not retreivable(sp). So I made a new piece, 5mm long by 1/32 dia and used that as the rod that the OFF button pushes in to hit the switch inside. Then I layed a seam of Locktite flexable heat proof glue along the top leadng edge of the back of the OFF button which acts like a hinge. After drying 24hrs....everything works like new and the whole fix cost $4.
