Opinions please...

About 20K miles ago (around 60K) I replaced my plugs and as many of you, I found oil in bank #5. Since I am still covered under my warranty, I went to the dealership to have it checked out. They ended up replacing the rear IM gasket, saying nothing about the coil pack being bad. Well, seeing how the only way to check to see if it was replaced or not would be to pull off the IM again, I trusted the tech and hoped it actually was replaced. I have always changed the engine oil myself with Castrol GT-X 5W30 every 3K miles using a Mobile M1-105 filter. I have had the dreaded rattle between 2-3K RPMs, but do not appear to be burning oil. Well, yesterday, 20K miles later I take the car in to get a SES light checked out. It ended up being the evap canister but also suprised to find out that a coil pack went bad, causing a misfire. Im thinking that the oil leak in bank #5 is still occuring and finally blew the coil pack. Therefore, Im wondining if I have enough evidence that my engine is buring/leaking oil. Id like to get Nissan USA to replace the engine, but was wondering if you guys think I have a leg to stand on when trying to argue my case. I currently have 83K miles with the Gold Preffered Warranty up til 100K.

Hate to say it, but it would be a pretty hard sell to Nissan NA. There are those with far more reason/evidence to get a new engine that were denied for the biggest BS reasons you can think of... like not having records of the first three oil changes.

Jason,
Still no results? I just read the attached links above concerning your car, but wondering if youre still trying to battle it out. I hate that Im stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. I love my Maxima, but will refuse to buy another Nissan if they refuse to do anything about this mess.

i had two choices -
1. spend thousands of dollars on a lawyer to possibly get a free engine (that could also have a problem). its not like im fighting to get a cash settlement...its to get something done for free.
2. spend that money for better rings to fix the problem.

i decided #2 made more sense.

I am starting to think that Nissan only makes cars to handle their lease period because after 60k miles, the cars start to fall apart. I've considered purchasing a 03 max but with the leaking oil issues and tons of questions about coil packs and sensors, I do not think I want to upgrade.

On my max, I have changed so many things that I find it weird that Nissan is a japenese car and has good ratings.
In the past 3 years of ownership I changed coils, all 4 oxy sensors, transmission computer, radiator, 2 rear calipers, and other things that I just can't remember atm.

I am giving up on Nissan and can't wait to sell my ride.
Good luck with your problem

if you have warranty, make them do a engine swap. keep track of your oil loss. keep going to the dealership. call nissan NA. do whatever you can to get a new engine for you.

I had zero problems getting nissan to swap my engine. I made the complaint, and the service manager made me come in four 4 oil top ups. I was burning 1 litre per 1000km. 8 weeks later I have a new engine without showing them any service records. Although I did a lot of oil changes at dealership, I did quite a few elsewhere as well. Swapped at at 123000 km, warranty ends at 128000
