2000 to 2002 Front Bumper Conversion Qs

First off I'm not here to make new enemies, yes the last time I posted here I was pretty sure I was inheriting a lot of money and was looking into Skylines and was going to buy one, needless to say after going through court for a few months things went belly up and those dreams vanished. Some people said I was doing all that for popularity.. no I wasn't. Once I found out I wasn't even getting the money I left the forums and moved on. It was my mistake for posting things that hadn't happened yet. Moving on I have been trying to avoid the forum since I did embarrass myself by getting too excited with something I later on never got. Well I do have a couple questions only the maxima community can answer since its not nissan condoned.

I know Iceland Maxima and a couple others have done the conversion for a 2000 maxima to the 2002/03 front bumper.. My brother recently got in an accident with my car back in the states and it would cost just as much repairing or placing a new or the currently 2000 bumper as starting with the 2002/03 so I want to do the upgrade since I have 2002 HID headlights and a 2002 Hood. So I have three questions for anyone that can direct me to where to find the answers (I would search myself but I am overseas in Iraq currently and they scan every page for viruses so it takes years to load a page, pretty much dial up speed. I apologize in advance if the answers to these questions have been posted in already):

1. What parts are needed for puchasing for converting the front of a 2000 maxima to the 2002 bumper?

2. Where is the cheapest place to get the parts from, or where in general?

3. Is there a how-to on it?

Thanks for you help in advance.

1. Parts needed for the conversion are the bumper itself, 2002-2003 grille, and 2002-2003 foglights. I believe the absorbers and everything else is not needed. They're basically all the same for all 5th gener's.

2. Cheapest place would be here on the .org, junkyards, and sometimes eBay.

3. As of right now, I don't think there is a how-to. You would have to ask anyone here who has done the conversion.

My cousin and I did this conversion on his 2000 Maxima. If you want to do it correctly, you will also need the 2002 fender liner on both sides.

I don't remember exactly what i needed. The bumper, grille and emblem, headlights, headlight conversion harness or make your own, the hood is the same. Also the plastic windguard or whatever you call that piece under the engine that connects to the bumper is different so you will have to drill new holes.

Oh okay, I wasn't sure.. when I first got the car the guy said the hood was replaced with an 02 (he didn't know squat about the car he said it was a 2002 to begin with when it was a 2000) and there were gaps in the front where the sides around the grill meet the bumper, so I figured it was a different year hood.. looks like it was just aftermarket.

-Headlights I got, the harness for it I have.. (what clips do you use to hold them down? 00? or 02/03? I haven't quite figured that one out yet but now I'm doin the conversion so I need to know)

Need:

-Bumper
-Grille
-Emblem
-Plastic Windguard
-02 Fender liner
-new clips for the headlights? (right now theres no clips because the 02/03 created huge ugly gaps, but they jossle around at night)
-Did you buy the fogs for it? Right now I have unitzma or however you spell it 6k HID fogs, so I have to go buy the 02/03 fog assemblies? I heard they crack with HID set ups..

Does this list sound right? Or am I missing something? Again thanks for the help.

You need the 02-03 clips. I had to order some from the dealer a few years ago. They are gray in color if I'm not mistaken.

The foglights only crack if they are hit with a rock as far as i know. I've had 8000k HIDs in my fogs for a lil over a year now n have never had one crack.

I can think of a few other methods to get them to crack.

2000 Maxima Accident, their insurance is covering a front bumper swap.. please help

First off thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you have any advice or help on the issue it would be very appreciated as this is time sensitive.

Well about 2 weeks ago I parallel parked my 2000 maxima on a downtown Albany street, and some drunken idiot tryed to fit his old rusted landrover in a spot half as big as his car. Needless to say he did some damage to my end. The good news is his insurance is covering a brand new front bumper but I requested a 2002/03 front instead of the 2000 front since I already converted my lights to the 2002/03 HIDs.

Now comes to my questions for anyone who has done the swap, I know I've asked some of this in the past but that was spectulation. This time its being asked/done with money in hand.

1. A friend from a body work shop locally did some research on both the 2000 and 2002/03 models and found most of the info we were looking for on what parts were compatible for the swap and what parts would have to be ordered. We couldn't find out however if the 2000 fog lights could fit into the spaces for the 2002/03 bumper, so can this be done or do I need to order brand new 2002/03 fog light assembly?

2. My headlights ever since I've taken the halogens out and replaced them with the HID haven't been clipped down in a while. So at high speeds or over potholes you can see the headlights shake up and down, do I need to order the 2000, or the 2002/03 headlight clips for the bottom so that they are secured and not bouncing around?

Lastly if you know of the exact parts that need to be ordered for the bumper swap and can shine some light on this I could forward some paypal money for your help, as like I said this is time sensitive. Any replys / PMs are appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

well i hope my answer to question one helps out a bit. I was contemplating on doing a entire front end conversion 2k2 headlights, 2k2 bumper, and keeping my 2k1 fogs. I found out that with the 2k2 bumper you need the 2k2 fogs, the 2k1 fogs will not fit due to size issues, and i believe the mounts are somewhat different as well.

also waht do you mean your 2k2 headlights havent been clipped down, im just curious to know because im about to put some 2k2 headlights into mine after i get them back from customlightz.com for a projector retrofit. what exactly needs to be clipped down? but my guess is to order the 2002 headlight clips

What happened was I ordered the 2k2 clips for the HIDs, installed them all together clipped secure underneith but it left HUGE ugly gaps so when the shop took them out; The gaps were not as bad but the lights started bouncing up and down over potholes or sometimes at high speeds as well. Thanks for the help on the fogs though, I was pretty sure I remembered reading that the old ones didn't fit.

I wanted to do this swap, as well, when I upgraded to the HID's. I have a few parts, but still haven't got around in getting the bumper. But, as far as I can remember, these are the parts needed....

1) 2k2-2k3 bumper (of course)
2) 2k2-2k3 fogs with brackets
3) 2k2-2k3 grill
4) 2k2-2k3 "retainers" (I believe these are called this) that install behind the bumper.
5) If you have the HID's, you need the 2k2-2k3 clips.

Italiano, I'm not sure why your 2k2-2k3 clips did not work and left a gap. But, for mine, mine fit perfectly flush and I had not fitment problems.

There was also some decent info in your previous thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=495351

And since this isn't much different, I'm merging the two.
