How to color-match the 5.5 grill?

I want to match the upper grill to the Sheer Silver color of the car but Im not sure how to go about doing it. I did search but only found results of those who did it, no how-to's. I just dont want to make any mistakes. I heard that dealers dont sell factory paint (besides touch up paint) to the public, only to bodyshops? I dont know if theres any truth to that...

Either way, once I get the paint do I need to apply a coat of something before the paint or should I just paint right on? Can it be done without taking the grill off and what should I use to apply the paint? thanks

Do not try to do this yourself, there is no spray paint or anything that will match right.

It is the type of thing that needs to be done at a body shop.

I did mine myself but i just painted it black.

BODYSHOP. They will get the color code of your car and do it right. I did it out of a shop inside a nissan dealer. Cost me $45-$50, dont remember exactly.

No I have not. The first time, I painted it semi-gloss black just from spray cans. Second time around, the body shop did it as well as my engine cover.

oh wow...I thought this was a simple DIY. I mean I really want to do it myself but if everyone is warning me not to then I guess I wont. It seems like a fun little side project.

You can do it yourself, you can get the paint in a spray can or somethin, Just take your time w/ the prep and stuff like that. http://www.paradox-systems.com/advan...=paint&x=0&y=0
I havent used it but i belive they are a sponsor of the site and i would guess atleast a few have used their stuff.

Yes you will want to take the grille off, you need to clean it and sand it w/ like 800 grit

you need to have some experience in painting your own stuff. i painted my old rear window spoiler with the paradox paint kit, but it didnt come out great. it was uneven and pearl is hard to match. get a shop to do it, itll be 100% better than DYI.

It depends on color though, im shure if you had black you could do it just as good as a bodyshop as long as you have some experience in painting things.

Get the paint code from under the hood. Bring it to your local Allied or equivalent shop and they will mix the paint on the spot for you... But if you don't have any painting experience have a body shop do it...

yeah, um i belive some bodyshops can do the same thing for you also where they get the paint mixed and put it in an aerosol can, a buddy of mine had to paint a fender on his accord and went that route.

If I had it to do over again (which I guess technically I do) I would just take it to the body shop. My painting skills definately show with it. I ended up redoing it like 3 times before I was satisfied, and it's still not great. I probably spent as much in supplies as it would've cost at the body shop.

2. 5-7 light layers of paint allowing to dry between each one
3. 3-4 light layers of clear coat allowing to dry between each one

i have a 2000 max, do i need to take off the bumper to take off the grill? I got some black paint and clear coat to do this project. my car is black so it'll be easy to match, just tired of the grey looking grill. I just need a way to take off the bumper. Thanks!!

your grill WILL NOT come off of the bumper, you have to paint it on the car

about you painting your brakes.... if you want to spend a little more money and save the headaches later i would recommend powdercoating them instead of paint....no mater how clean you get the caliper and how well you paint it... it will always clip and you will be repainting at least once a year... i had mine powdercoated for 2 years now and dont have a chip yet
good luck

My paint code is EVO, so my color is Sunlit Sand , Dupli color makes it in the pen or spray, i can buy it at Advance auto parts where i work, everything in the pic sooner posted is available at advance, look under your hood, on the firewall in the middle almost there should be a silver plate, it will have the paint code on it, then goto advance auto, look in the paint code book and there you go, it tells you what you need, or just look your paint code color up on google.
