Need advice buying ECU

Ha ha this one wasn't discussed (used a free search).

To the point:

I need to replace my ECM (ECU) unit after it's burned on me. Problem described in this topic: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=504874
I have an option to buy either rebuilt or junk yard ECU. Price is approximately the same but re-builders offer 1 year warranty. Also my ECU is kinda rare 2001 w/TCS so I'm leaning towards rebuilt unit.

Let me know what you think guys?

Does it work at all? do they have serial numbers on them. I know on older cars I'd to the test drive fix. You know test drive one and swap the parts make the dealer cover it. But if there's serial numbers that can be traced back or it doesn't work at all that wouldn't work.

Current ECU works fine, but it's unable to control Idle speed valve solenoid so no Idle. Heh, can't do it by myself I don't have $3G tool on me. I'm not certain about serial #, however, it is a certain part number year, TCS/ no TCS.

Well, whichever one you choose to install, the car won't start anyway until the dealer programs the keys. So you'd better give the old bad for good ECU switcheroo a second thought.

that's an easy fix though. Just change the ECU at the dealership and they'll program the key on the spot.

i bought an ECU from a junkyard for $100... no problems... just make sure that you have the same production date and you'll be fine... I did a six speed swap and bought a six speed ECU and i have absolutely no problems... best route and much cheaper... all i had to do is get it reprogrammed...

When I replaced mine there were hundreds of matches on car-part.com. Most of them come with a warranty too. It's fairly rare to have the IACV burn-out problem so you should be fine with buying a used one. I saw many traction control ECU's available when I was searching for my 01.

Oh and the re-program for the keys and all that was ~107 for me.

Technosquare does only programming.

I was able to find only one (reman) in my area. $250.
I consider junk yards don't ship parts?

i'd say get the rebuilt one just in case. a few bucks for a warranty never hurts

most junk yards I talked to in the past will ship UPS.

I'm back from car-part.com no unit for reasonable price nationwide.
waiting for quote on a BN unit. If this is not a case I'm leaning towards re manufactured ECM
