Slight Hesitation 3-4k RPM's

Hey, i just recently did a 5spd conversion on my 01 AE as well as HotShot Headers. I just got my car back and it feels good, but im getting a slight hesitation(lack of power) from 3-4k rpm;s. The car takes off really fast, and the top end is powerful, just the midrange! Its got a new ACT clutch and Fidanza Flywheel. Anybody have any suggestions why?

Maybe it needs a tune? I know my car does.

Unless you have a means to monitor any parameters, you'll be playing a guessing game. That is unless you have an SES and any codes that would relate to the problem, which you didn't mention.

i have 5 CEL codes! because i have an Auto Ecu, but i just converted to 5sp so i need to change it to a manual ECU. here are the codes...

P0740 -TCC Solenoid Valve
P0745 -Line Pressure Solenoid Valve
P0750 -Shift Solenoid Valve ‘‘A’’
P0755 -Shift Solenoid Valve ‘‘B’’
P1760 -Overrun Clutch Solenoid Valve

I dont quite know what these mean! Atleast not yet!

I recently put on my HS...and I'd say its a similar thing. But after 4k it pulls very nicely.

Because you have a Fidanza flywheel and an ACT clutch, those 2 items lead me to believe that you have a 5 speed manual transmission.

Those codes are related to the automatic transmission, which you do not have. Therefore, that's the reason why you're getting these codes

Common sense really.

As far as your problem goes, those codes may in fact be related to that hesitation. So, might as well try and fix those codes, i.e, get an MT ECU perhaps.

ya im working on getting a 5spd ECU. but i been hearing feedback from other manual swappers that it shouldnt cause it to hesitate even though i have an auto ecu!

you know... another possibility is that the new headers caused a drop in midrange torque. pretty much all the aftermarket headers for the max are equal-length which is awesome for high-end, but our factory headers were designed with a full range of usable power in mind. also, check your O2 sensor. I've heard stories where they'll go bad and won't throw a code.

If you can prove this on a dyno, I'll give you my retirement...mmmk?

It could possibly be the MAF is just beginning to blow. When mine went the first time it was barely noticeable for a few days, just a slight hesitation in the midrange. Then it got worse and worse until I couldn't rev at all beyond 3k.

ok i just cleaned my MAF Sensor and my Throttle Body. Performance is a lil better but im still getting that slight hesitation, its actually from 3700-4200 rpm's. I even check my TPS sensor wires to make sure everything was fine.. I guess im gonna buy that Manual ECU. Hope that takes care of it....

Omar, did you seal up the hole in the intake for the nitrous? if it's leaking air, it'll fck up your throttle response.

sealed with electrical tape? I don't think you can use sealed and electrical tape in the same sentence.

Sometimes I feel a slight hesitation in power when the valve timing kicks up arround the same RPM.
