Weird a** noise/howling sound coming from front end?

I had the weirdest thing happen the other day, and I cannot figure out how to adequately describe it (and consequently, searching poses a problem), but I'll do my best.

Yesterday, I turned onto a main road, and gave the car some gas to accelerate up to speed. Shortly after acceleration began, a LOUD *** noise, sounded like a bad trumpet player or a dying animal howling came from the front (sounded like right side) end of the car.

The "trumpet" blast lasted for maybe 1-1.5 seconds before it went away as abruptly as it came, and nothing ever happened again. There was no vibration, no loss of power, nothing physical other than the sound.

It's happened once before, a while ago, but I can't remember what the conditions were. Anyone have a clue as to what this is? I can't come up with a plausible explanation.

Thanks!

I'm taking a shot in the dark here...

Its probably your brake pads rubbing against your rotors and getting free in the process. Or possibly the shield behind the rotors.... definately sounds like something needs to be lubed.

Again, i'm just thinking out loud...

I appreciate the shot. I'm in the dark here too.

I checked it out, the shield behind the rotors isn't bent, and isn't rubbing.

I suppose it could be the pads, but I had already driven about 2 miles before that happened, using the brakes, so they were warmed up and weren't sticking. Plus, I've never heard brakes make a sound like that.

This really and truly sounded like a bad trumpet blast (rather than some sort of rubbing) - i.e. some sort of air/gas being forced out somewhere producing a sound.

No, louder and more "horn" like, but not a horn.

No rumble strips on this road either, BTW.

No, had that happen before, and I know the sounds and symptoms.

Plus I did the "tug on the wheel" test the other day. Everything seemed to be alright.

Basically, my car just makes weird sounds. The good news is that I'm not the only one that hears them. Otherwise, I'd need

Its the pads for sure, I get it too. Ever since I started doing my brake jobs (though correctly as per the book), I get this howling sound and the brake dust is like no other vehicle. But then the rotors are not hot nor turing to red (no drag/binding), meaning the pads are off the rotors and the pins are working fine.

But then there are many unexplained things, this is one of those that is in my vehicle.

I've had the noise I think you're talking about, and that usually happens to me when the pads are HOT. I don't think that's my problem (or at least what's causing the noise).
