Quick question
Quick question
Since I will be installing a new front axle on my Max very soon, Im curious to know if they will need to lift my engine to change the axle? If so, would it be worth changing my engine mounts while they're doing this anyway? I've read about polyurethane mounts and how they are stronger than stock (almost anything aftermarket is for this car lol). I figure if this is the case, I could kill 2 birds with one stone... thoughts?
No need to jack up the motor. The axle install is pretty straight forward. Just remember to drain the tranny fluid first.
The motor mount install is pretty easy but you'll probably want to have a shop press out the old mount and press in the new one. You can just bring them the parts after you remove them.
Doing them at the same time wont be any easier.

OO, I thought it would of needed the engine to be lifted to install the axles. When you say drain the tranny fluid, do you mean to install the motor mounts or to replace the axles? IIRC I dont think the fluid needs to be drained to replace the axles. To put on motor mounts I don't know but Im pretty sure it doesnt need it to put on a new axle.
You will need to jack up and support the motor for the mounts. You wont have to for the axles. Just lift the front of the car and use jackstands at the jacking points under the front doors.
On a manual you do have to drain the fluid for the axles. If not it will spill out on the floor and it's nasty smelly stuff. I'm not positive about an auto but I think you do. It's probably time for fresh fluid any way and it's not hard to do. You wont need to touch the fluid for the mounts.
