Optima yellow here. Never again. Too much money for only a mid-perfomer of a battery. They do look good but I think they should last longer than 3 years. Probably going to go Duralast as they have worked well in my motorhome.

Interstates have served me best over the years through Chicagoland winters, reasonable sound systems, occasional deep cycles, and even a roll-over accident.

300amps should be plenty for the summer....well, at least until they pop.
Try NIMH instead.

Battery finally died today

Of course the battery dies when I need to get to work this morning. So after some more research (ConsumerReports.org) I was thinking of going with the EverStart Maxx (Wal-Mart Brand) which has a 36/108 warranty and 700CCA.

Does anyone have any experience with this brand?

5+ yrs on mine. I also had a couple slow cranks two winters ago, but I just plugged in the trickle charger overnight and it cured the problem. The only reason I won't do OEM again is because they aren't the maintenance-free kind. I always had to check the levels and make sure I topped off with distilled water. There's no excuse for batteries like that these days. Everything else on the market is and has been mainenance-free for years and there is no cost difference.

Bought one of those for my truck a few years back. Very good for the price.

Agreed. Had one in my last car (94 Camry). Cheapest battery and had better CA/CCA than the auto store brands.

7 years 166000 miles on my oem non-maintenence free battery. Keep filling them with water and lube the terminals and they will outlast 20 "maintenence-free" batteries.

why dont you keep your current bat under the hood and throw the redtop in the trunk? and anyone got pics of their big 3 set up? i recently installed a yellowtop and got a few questions. do i run my big 3 wire parallel to the stock wire or upgrade the stock wire? i also noticed that my bat. is grounded the same place as the engine block, it also seems like it's the same wire running from bat. to ground and then to block so can someone confirm this? it was dark when i installed the yellowtop so couldn't really tell.

In my max the dealer stuck in a Honda Battery, seriously that's what it says on the side. But in my Bronco I have a red top. I've had it for I think a little under 2.5 years and it just works. Even when it is low it will still start the 351 under the hood. I also put it through it's paces, when I got it I only had a 95 amp alt. Even with only that it powered a set of 2nd gen max fans for cooling, a 1500 watt amp that powered 2 12s, a 200 watt head unit, 2 Hella 500s, fogs and of course the standard headlights. If that doesn't put a load on the battey I don't know what will. Oh and never a drainage issue. Since then I have upgraded to a 130 amp alt, bigger charge wire, removed the fogs (one of them is grounding internally) and changed the fan to that of a lincon mark VIII (Single fan). I can leave the truck sitting for more than a week and that battery will still hit the starter as hard as ever.

Oh and I voted yellow top, that way if or when you decide to upgrade your electronics you will have a battery that will allow them to run long after the engine is off.

Oh and the great thing about the optimas, they don't get post corosion. I used to have to clean the posts of my lead-acid batterys once every month or so, since installing the red I never have had to clean it. In fact the only time I even look at the battery is when I'm jumping other vehicles with it.

This is the battery I went with recently. My OEM lasted about 4 years and 186,000 miles. The EverStart Maxx has an excellent warranty, cheap price, and is made by Johnson Controls. I had them test mine before I bought it and it tested at 780CCA even though it is rated for 700CCA. It should be good for a long time.

Autotragic. I hope it lasts a long time to come. I think it will. I am sure I'll have to replace the transmission at some point if I keep it long enough, but for now it shows no signs dying anytime soon.

Anyway...we should probably let this thread get back on topic.

For me...
$100 for a battery made by "some company" who can at least manage to make a battery to Nissan's standards.....

OR...

$60-80 for an Interstate battery; you know the manufacturer, and it's less.

ALTHOUGH...

I'm an Interstate guy, I'll always trust 'em; but it's still cheaper.

That's the info from me; What info do you have to offer? Big stereo or other high drain devies? If you have them, do you run them for long without the car running?... etc. What's your needs?

I went with the Costco battery since it has a great warranty.

I didn't need a light battery for racing so th Costco one suits me best, and best for the price.
