Should i buy an aftermarket y-pipe?
Should i buy an aftermarket y-pipe?
Just got back from the dealer- 01 cali-spec 112k miles...confirmed a p0430 and quoted me $1300 for a "front exhaust tube" and 2 o2 sensors. That, obviously, is not happening. However I was wondering what you guys usually do, I know this is a common problem. I've got an inspection coming up, and i'm not sure whether to try and get a used stock y-pipe from someone on here, or an aftermarket like from cattman or stillen, or even warpspeed. Do I even need the o2's? the SES goes on and off by itself every few days. The service advisor said "your cat failed the efficiency test miserably"
I know oxygen sensors would be a good idea anyway, from my mileage..probly get those from dave b. or autozone...is there any programming for those after the install? Alright thanks in advance for opinions/suggestions, i'm open to pretty much everything.
edit: service advisor also said, "it usually starts here and goes from bad to worse, i mean its plugged pretty bad so.." then said the thing about the efficiency test. car still pulls like a badass though, it runs fine, doesnt hesitate, no slow spots in the RPM range so is it even possible its plugged?

Yep your right he said sensor 2 bank 2, thats the back one behind the second precat right? I'm gonna replace that one first, actually gonna see if it passes inspection then do the o2, also want to test it with a multimeter like they described in the other "catalytic convertor" thread

just go aftermarket
just go aftermarket
I've heard quite a few cases of aftermarket Y-pipes passing emissions tests... especially if the inspector doesnt really know what to look for. If he knows his **** though, look out because they are not street legal from what I've read.
You should probably not listen to me because I have never passed an emissions test
(This is because Michigan, being the state that Detroit is located in, does not have gay hippie california emissions tests, at least to the best of my knowledge.)

You will pass an emmissions test as long as you have the main cat still and the car is fully warmed up(NY still dose not have one).
The best way to get rid of the secondary o2 sensor codes is with a dual o2 sim...
You will NOT pass a NY Inspection with an o2 sensor code stored.
I can pass a NY Inspection with headers thanks to my dual o2 sim.... PS, you will need to keep the sensors on the car and hooked up for the heater circuit... OR, you could get a Heater Sim also and remove them.

Thanks upstate... you can get those off that o2simulator website right? I want to test the sensors I have now too I'll post when I get results of that, are they all supposed to be 10-15 kOhms?

Haha... if i could afford the $671 the dealer wants JUST for the part I'd get headers. The light comes on by itself, just cruising, like i'll be driving down the highway goin 45-55 or so it'll pop on for a few days. Actually it hasent came back on since I had the diagnostic done at the dealer, went and got it inspected today and it passed emissions! Although i'm sure o2 sensors should be done, i'm not gonna worry about it right now.
u have an 01 so i wouldnt go w/ the headers. just get aftermarket y pipe, gain a few ponies, order the O2's from dave b or or online somewhere or dual output O2 sim and call it a day.
