Put the cat-back on hold for now, get the aluminum flywheel and/or eliminate the pre-cat's first

 

I like your thinking. Perhaps we should turn this into a "I've been there before and it wasn't the smartest 1st mod/any mod, and this is how you should do it. And I/we know this from experience.' I guess an intermediate thread vs the newbie thread.

 

I was asking that in retrospect, what would've been the best thing to do, along with what was the first thing. I realize that there is a lot of experience here with modding, and I know that a lot of times people wish they had done something first instead of later. But thanks for re-iterating the question, because I know the name of the post doesn't imply the real question I was asking.

k&n drop in.. pretty weak. if i can get the oil burning thing fixed i'm going to drop a couple grand on some performance/handling stuff

Russell Speed Bleeders, then you can bleed your brakes all by yourself.

 

My reccomendation is to plan your mods and get the right parts the first time. IE don't buy a crappy tsudo exhaust that'll sound like bees in a can when you get headers when you can get a cattman for a little more and end up happy with your sound.

Also, try to get most of your major breathing mods done before you tune so you don't waste alot of money getting it tuned 4 or 5 times.

Watch the classifieds for a few weeks and see if you can get used parts for 1/2 the price of retail if you want a good deal

 

First part I actually bought was a Vibrant FSTB, but I had already done the OSCAI mod to my intake, followed by the GAB. Probably do the intake spacers next.

 

Injen CAI. Next I am getting full Cattman exhaust (after I win the lottery). lol

 

It seems alot of people did the berk intake, so I am planning on doing that first. I was just wondering where people bought theres? I couldn't really find any on ebay. Do i have to buy it from the Berk website or is there somewhere cheaper maybe. I don't really care spending like 140 on an intake, but if i can I like to save some money. Thanks.

 

I don't mean to change the topic or anything, but this seems like a good opportunity for me to ask you a question about my brakes. It seems as if I have warped rotors, and I just bought the car a couple months ago from a senior owner. What brake upgrades would you guys recommend as far as rotors and brakes? I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money, just the best bang for my buck.

i havent done any performance upgrades yet. but i would say an intake first. i was thinking about an injen rd or a berk w/apexi. i dont know what would be better. anyone know what is better and more horse power?

FSTB, RSB, tokico illuminas and eibach springs in one shot. Then I went for the performance. I couldn't imagine having 250 fwhp on a 4x4 maxima...

they dont sell it with the K&N filters anymore and i dynoed pretty high with just that mod

I made my own, a friend of mine had a berk so I copied it , sort of... Not a duplicate but pretty close.

Sold about 20 of them in the last year or so.

I wouldn't say it was anything huge but combined with the GAB, there is a slight improvement from 6000 rpm to the rev limiter.

The first few times I got on it at a 45 mph roll after doing the OSCAI, I noticed less midrange than stock, especially the first time

The ECU seemed to adjust pretty quickly though, each time got closer to what had been the normal punch from a 45 mph roll. Now it is at least as strong.

I remember reading somewhere (maybe the intake thread?) that the OSCAI + GAB was about 7-8 hp over stock.

 

idk ive always wanted to go with berk since i had my 4thgen last year...i havent dynoed without the intake but im at 224hp SAE with a BERK intake..plus its cheaper than most intakes

i heard that Place Racing had the best intakes for our cars but ur gunna have to find that somewhere on ebay or here used...

 

Since you installed the intake, I would put a set of headers on the car since the stock exhaust isn't terribly restrictive if it is power you are craving

they no longer make parts for a maxima...some parts still avaliable used from people on here.

i have their B-pipe and part of their intake (hybrid with berk)

 

mine will be a injen cold air intake or an exhuast. most likely within the next month or two. just need to scrub up the cash

 

you need to delete the thread you started...and an injen is an overpriced and overhyped POS
