for the last few weeks, after I leave for work in the morning, the engine kind of "whine" when I accelerate past the 3.5k RPM-or-so mark.
After a few miles, I do not hear any whinning.

could a belt be slipping?
My max is dead stock manual 00' 5th gen, and I've changed the MAF (+ reflash the CPU at stealership) to the upgraded one two years ago.

I have that occasionally, it has to be very cold out and the car had to be sitting a long time...probably something to do with the alternator...I have new belts and they are adjusted to spec so I know it's not that...plus typically slipping belts wouldn't cause this symptom...I think it has something to do with the alternator...

Mine did that too when really cold. Sounded freakin cool, like a turbo spooling up.

could be the power steering pump. i had p/s system half full recently when i was changing the hard lines to rubber lines, and i noticed a significant whine.

I wish i had a whinning noise after 3.5k... ahhhh SCed. lol
