Transmission??

Driving yesterday my car made a loud grinding noise when making a left turn and did not accelerate in any direction (drive or reverse). When moving the shifter thru the gears park to drive and back to park, there was a metal on metal sound and no acceleration. The rpms go up and so do the mph but there is only a metal grinding noise that's made. MY axles were recently replaced in the front. My mechanic said no tranny fluid was replaced since none was leaked. What could this be? Also, if its in drive or reverse the RPM's go up to about 1000 with the grinding noise heard. Only in neutral or park does the noise go away.

Even though I've never had a kick or a slip here and there? It pulled in every gear though and this was a noise that came after my mechanic had installed my strut mounts. Could it be an install issue??

Im gettin the car towed today and the guy who worked on my car that what I described to him might possibly be that the axle popped out. The RPM's and MPH both went up but with no movement. Ive driven a couple cars with broken transmissions and never experienced anything like this. If the axle DID pop out, would it cause any other damage to the transmission? I dont want to fix this only to come back around and need a new tranny. Thanks.

Im gettin the axle put in as I write this and Im curious to know if I should be paying for any labor costs? My previous 2 axles were bad (bought the car like that) and neither of them "popped" out of place and I drove with them like that for a couple months. The ones that were put in one of them on my driver side "popped" out. Is this an installation issue or a defective part? This is the 5th or 6th time Im getting the axle tweaked to get in the ****in car each time having them replace one because it was defective. What BS would the mechanic tell me? Does it pop out due to poor installation?

I dont have the $$ for raxles lol. I mean if my other 2 axles were bad and they popped out then it wouldve been the part itself but they didnt they just made the car wobble on turns. I didnt even have the axle in for a week and half and it popped out so it has to be a bad install. It's annoying to bring my car in more than once for the same ****. New mechanic after this **** gets sorted out. So who else votes on bad install?

Yeah, it should be free, it's the handeler, not the part. And about the tranny fluid, I dont know if it's different now, or if automatics are different, but I had to change my 93's cv's and as soon as you pull the axle out, fluid gushes out of the tranny. It'd seem like it should be the same. Check your fluid level.

The guy who did the axle's the 1st time said no tranny fluid came out. It's an 01 AE and I think it has a different type of tranny (VLSD I think) Im not too sure if the fluid needs to be replenished but I brought it up to him and he said no fluid came out at all. I kept pressing the issue and he reassured me so that wasnt of much concern but I will definitely check my fluids when I get my car back. I had to friggin flat bed the car there, good thing for insurance service but still had to pay $50 to get it there.
