I have a couple of newbie questions... don't flame me too hard...

how easy is this to install? Is it possible for a weekend mechanic to install this at home on jack stands?

Do the hangers on the muffler just insert on the mounts? or is there welding invovled?

Also, might sound liek a stupid question, but is that a cat or just a test pipe? any ideas how it would effect emissions?

Also, generally speaking, how does a aftermarket catback effect gas mileage?

if this produces a g35'ish sound like the cattman, i am very interested! bring on the video/sound clips!

The install is pretty straightforward. It depends on how comfortable you are working on your car. Ill be doing it on jack stands.

The hangers just inserts into the mounts. No welding.

Theres no cat included in the pics. Catback = behind the catalytic converter. This is just whats called the B pipe w/ resonator included and the muffler.

Google is your friend. Theoretically, it should help gas mileage, but it wont be noticeable. Heres some good reading: http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscella...austtheory.htm

Just an FYI... Those gaskets are garbage.

Nothing beats a good ole OEM metal gasket.

Garbage gaskets are still good when you use the correct size nuts and bolts along with a good alignment of the exhaust. I use any gasket that fits the diameter and bolt distance and they've all worked, so oem or "good gasket" is nothing to swear by.

I prefer to do things once and do it right... In an emergency, I had to use one of those garbage gaskets while the dealer ordered me some... In under two days it started to leak, and yes, they were installed correctly.

Thanks for the heads up on the gaskets, I'll see if my installer has ones that are better quality when I take it down.
To answer other questions and comments:
1.) It appears as that the muffler is of the straight thru style, I can see no baffling, but I do see the mesh fill.
2.) SilMax00, I'm ***** deep in the pink so forget it.
3.) The OD of the pipe is 2.5"
4.) I will post on youtube video of the exhaust w/ sound on Saturday evening after my round of golf.
5.) I spoke with a guy who bought this, and he said he had fitment issues with the suspension crossmember because the pipe is bigger than stock. Crossmember MUST be loosened to install. That being said, I suggest having this installed by a shop.

Very nice that it's a straight through design! The mesh probably only helps with the sound, maybe so it won't just sound like a metal canister...

I have a feeling it will sound similar to the Cattman but maybe even quieter.

BTW, Mossy makes the Cattman exhaust IIRC

I removed the crossmember to install my Cattman... put it on till I installed headers, now it is sitting in a garage.

Many remove their crossmembers so I wouldn't worry about that hitting the exhaust components. For a catback install, please DIY.

Pics of the inside of the tips, if you can.

I'm hoping it's quiet. Mass State Police don't like noisy exhausts.

What do you mean by this?
That the crossmember is not an essential part that can be entirely removed?

Yup, never went there but my friend picked up an exhaust system years ago. They haven't made anything for the last year or so, well, exhaust at least.

Do you go to school around here?

Yes it can... I was just to lazy to make it fit right.

I guess you can use washers to space it out more for clearance, ehhh, I might put it back on, but I never noticed a difference in the car with it off.

You CAN remove the crossmember, but I didn't. It's a big chunk of metal, don't know but some say the car feels no different. Just align your exhaust (loosen the neccesary bolts) and push up against different exhaust components one at a time, then tighten. This will result in more clearance, essentially.

She's On!!

I picked up the package this morning, it had some holes in it and one of the muffler hangers was poking out a lil bit. I didnt think anything of it. I am sure glad i dont live up north, my bolts and nuts came off pretty easy with some PB Blaster. I got all bolts off by hand, couldnt get an air wrench around em, weird angles and what not.

As opened up the package everything looked good still in bubble wrap and plastic. Nice welds, flanges and bends. However, i took the bubble wrap off the muffler tips and immediately noticed the drivers side tip had been bent during shipping. Not much at all, but noticeable when comparing it to the symmetrical tip right next to it. I was pretty pissed at first but i ended up just grabbing a towel and pliers and bending the tip a lil bit very carefully. It worked pretty well, its not perfect but from the naked eye you cant really notice it anymore. You have to get flush with the tips and really look for it. Oh well, nothing is perfect on my car. I have a 1"x2" paint chip right underneath my headlight that keeps spreading daily. Effin Nissan Paint!

Fitment is pretty solid. I didnt have to remove the crossmember to get the axleback pipe to the b pipe, it was a tight fit though. At first it wouldnt go in but i ended up borrowing a friends ford explorer jack stacked on top of 2 2X4's to get the car up higher. It made for a better angle trying to snake the pipe in there. It clears whatever crossbar that is right after the cat pretty well but its flirting extremely close to the next crossbar at the b pipe hanger. It clears the crossmember and axle pretty easily once everything is in though.

As far as the gaskets, i dont have much experience, i just used stock gaskets w/ my headers.

I didnt see any mesh fill or steel wool in the muffler. Looking through the single wall tips, all i saw was what resembled a resonator, just like the one in the b pipe, only it branched out in a V shape towards the tips.

As far as sound...... I was a little nervous before starting her up. I wanted to get the bolts a little tighter but it was such weird angles cuz the car wasnt up that high. I was praying for no rattling or exhaust leaks. To me, it sounds a lot like the Cattman catback (w/ headers of course.) I really dont think its that loud though. Who knows it might be a lil quieter than cattman. I have only heard video clips, nothing in person so I might be somewhat biased. In highschool i drove a Dodge Ram 5.9L w/ straight duals out the back and that was loud. There was a lot of drone at 2k RPMS on the highway in that truck. I guess this just doesnt seem that loud to me. It is way louder than stock though, of course, but i dunno, sound is subjective. It has a nice soft purrr though at idle, i can barely hear it standing in front of the car or inside with the windows up or down. I havent driven at 70+ mph yet, just cruisin around town, tops of 50 mph. Even if there is drone, its nothing compared to my old truck but i always liked the way that sounded. It does pop a lot more though. It even pops when i drop it into neutral doing 20-30 and theres no load on the car. I ordered this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku not too long ago. I might get it put in. Maybe it will help w/ the pop. Ive read these glasspacks dont last that long though. Anybody got any insight on these?

The 3" tips look absolutely sick w/ the Megan Racing stamped on the side. They dont extend past the bumper at all and they really make the max's backside stand out. I put some hose clamps on the hangers to even things up a bit. Its still off by a few mm's, i got ancy and wanted to start her up. Ill tweak with it later. All in all, Im very happy with it. It sounds great, no real fitment issues, looks sexy and it was a pretty good price. Would highly recommend. Holler at me if yall got anymore questions. Happy modding!

Hmmm....

I think Cattman is quieter. Atleast the 2 I've heard with Cattman appear to be much quieter than that.

I was hoping it would be more mellow. Maybe it was the fact the camera was right on the ground by tips ????

Sounds good, glad to hear it's not loud, I've been nervous about that.
