I just want to know what the main difference between all the CB exhausts are? I mean there are so many companies that make them for the 02-03 max ie Cattman, Frankencar, and Megan Racing. I mean they all looks the same, same tips, given the material is maybe a slight bit different, but why are some companies bending their customers over were-as others are charging a reasonable amount? and please dont tell say performance because we can all conclude that its not for performance reasons. I could understand maybe sound but ive heard sound clips of all three and they all sound about the same.

In most to all cases, it's the difference between mass-produced overseas production providing extremely low costs to customer versus minimal production in the states with higher cost to customer.

Best example that I know of would be comparing HotShot products (now shut down) to replica OBX and/or SSAutochrome products. There was a huge difference in price between these because of where they were built.

yeah thats true....but the hotshot one is totally different. ive seen many pictures of headers for the 02-03 max but hotshots quality is what sold it i think. Their flanges looked 100x better than any other companies, their bends seem to be more relaxed as is not too much restriction and ofcourse the dyno proven performance. i mean ive been really wanting to get a catback but cattman is 600 + shipping, frankencar is 480+ shipping, and this one is 400+ shipping. my question is what makes a $600 exhaust better than a $400 when there is NO performance difference? as far as ive heard they all sound the same, look, and are built the same, so why is everyone paying the extra 200 bucks?

You cant get a frankencar anymore so thats out. Greddy is somewhere above 500 but you can get the ebay tsudo knockoff greddy for 230 shipped. Cattman is great quality, makes great products but personally i wouldnt pay that much for just sound and not performance for his catback. For cattman headers, thats a totally different story, definetely well worth the money. This MR catback looks pretty good, 400 shipped, we'll see how it is in a few days. If you can find a shop that has a mandrel bender, just build your own b pipe, resonator, muffler combo for cheap.

You must have never seen a OBX or SSAutochrome up close then. The flanges on those are 100% stainless and thicker. The mandrel bends and welds are perfect. The problem with these mass produced facilites that are overseas is they use thinner low-grade stainless.

Also, major differences in high doller "mufflers" and cheap eBay knock-offs, etc. is the type of baffling used or lack there of as well as the design of the tubing/chambers within the muffler. There are so many factors that would cause one exuast to be $200 more than another. R&D is a huge factor as well.

It looks VERY similar to the Cattman Cat-Back, I would expect very similar fitment & tone. As I said before, I think Megan makes the Cattman Cat-Back...

The only real difference I see are the polished tips.

pics of catback

OK so we went to install it, and the bolts on the stock exhaust at the cat are sooooo rusted that it will require torching to remove the factory exhaust. Getting it done Saturday AM. This is OK because the new exhaust came with HIGH Quality gaskets and hardware. Sorry the pics are not up yet, I didn't get back to the comp until late last night and now I'm back at work. I have pics of it un installed, closeups of flanges and welds. Will post around 7:30pm eastern time. Stay tuned....it'll be worth it. anyone know how I can embed them into these messages? with the same html as if this were myspace <img src=url> ????

Oh FYI, I got mine for $265 including shipping from a private seller on ebay, before this exhaust went live on Megan Racing's site. For those considering purchasing this exhaust, I can tell you that the quality is worth every penny of what anyone might be asking for it. Beats the hell out of a factory kit for $600(CA NLEV is like $1100!!!) plus labor.

Had an ssautochrome aleged stainless exhaust the thing started to rust after a couple months RIGHT AT THE WELDS FIRST and the flanges rusted to crap too. Seen pictures of their flanges from other people for other cars and their flanges and material were crap two months and their poducts rust to crap. Its all about the steel used and chinese steel is horrible and american steel is the best but its expensive, i know i've been a machinist for almost 5 years and have cut chinese steel and american steel.

That's too bad.

I owned a SSAutoChrome SR20 header for my '96 G20. Owned for 3 years until I sold the car. Was built very solid, thick SS flanges, quality SS TIG welds and perfect fit. Dyno proven gains were posted on several SR20 forums as well as much controversy over the design (potentially stolen from now defunt HotShot). I had personally held and assisted with the install of a OBX SR20 header and it was almost identical in quality build.

It did eventually have a hairline crack in the EGR bung, but I could not complain paying $150 shipped and the crack was so fine, there was no exhaust leak.

I had bought another one as a back up for a project car I had '91 SE-R, but ended up selling the car then the header a few months later.

It almost seems like a hit & miss with OBX and SSAutoChrome products. Some are good, some are bad.

Just as a follow-up, my buddy has a '93 Civic EX. His OEM exhaust rusted away several yearsa ago. Close to 10 years now I think. He ordered a generic eBay SS cat-back for I believe it was $200 shipped and a Pacesh!tter header. The car might have hit 90k at the time. It now has 250k on it, the Pacesh!tter finally took a dump (literally) a few months ago, so he ordered a generic eBay SS header for less than $100 shipped (yes under $100) to replace it...

...But the stainless exhaust is still in one solid stainless steel rice farting piece.

Again just goes to show, it is all hit & miss.

Thank you!!! Would it be possible for you to get a straight on shot of the internals. Take a shot into one or both of the tips. Can you tell if the baffling, etc. is also stainless by looking into the tips?
